Application Monitoring Basic Edition supports the pay-as-you-go billing method. You are charged based on your resource usage. Bills are generated and fees are deducted from the balance of your Alibaba Cloud account at the end of each billing cycle. This topic describes the billable items of the pay-as-you-go billing method for Application Monitoring Basic Edition.

Billable items
Traces
You can configure sampling rules for traces and pay by traffic. For information about how to configure sampling rules, see Customize application settings.
To change the storage duration, perform the following steps: Log on to the Application Real-Time Monitoring Service (ARMS) console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose . On the Storage Period Settings tab, change the storage duration.
Usage notes:
Each span corresponds to a request. Each trace consists of one or more spans. You are charged based on the number of spans.
All requests with the same trace ID belong to the corresponding trace. Each trace consists of up to 10 spans. The excess spans of a trace are billed one-tenth the fee of the trace.

Free quotas
Application Monitoring Basic Edition provides a free quota for trace data.
By default, for each API request sent from your Alibaba Cloud account, each agent samples the first trace and stores it free of charge for one day.

Billing cycle
The billing cycle of Application Management is one day. Application Management generates the bills of the previous day at 00:00 every day. Generally, bills are generated before 08:00. If your Alibaba Cloud account has sufficient balance, the system deducts fees from the balance. You can view bills in the Billing Management console and view resource usage in the ARMS console. Bills may be generated later than expected.
