This topic describes the instance types and pricing of ApsaraDB for OceanBase.
Instance type
ApsaraDB for OceanBase provides two types of database instances: cluster instances and tenant instances.
Cluster instances: In ApsaraDB for OceanBase, a cluster instance is the combination of OceanBase Database and a set of cloud resources required by it for running. It is associated with several server nodes and cloud resources such as the virtual private cloud (VPC).
Tenant instances: A tenant instance is a separate computing resource that you can obtain after a tenant is virtually isolated in a large cluster based on the unique tenant isolation technology of ApsaraDB for OceanBase. You can create a database in a tenant instance and create tables in the database to independently provide services for upper-layer apps. ApsaraDB for OceanBase supports exclusive and shared tenant instances. In this version, only shared tenant instances are provided. Users of a shared tenant instance use the same console and storage. Currently, only the 1C4G (1 CPU core and 4 GB of memory) and 2C8G specifications are supported. Shared tenant instances are suitable when high availability is not a must, and therefore are mainly used by individual developers or in scenarios that deal with a small amount of data. We recommend that you do not use shared tenant instances in high availability scenarios such as the core business systems of an enterprise.
Differences between a cluster instance and a tenant instance:
Comparison item | Tenant instance | Cluster instance |
Syntax | MySQL | Both MySQL and Oracle syntaxes are supported. |
Specifications | 1 to 2 cores | 4 to 62 cores |
Storage | Pay-as-you-go | Fixed storage for the matching specifications |
Mode | Shared (shared resources and services) | Exclusive (exclusive resources and services) |
Series | Standard Edition (Cloud Disk) | Standard Edition (Cloud Disk), Standard Edition (Local Disk), and Standard Edition (History Database) |
Feature | Low-level tenant capabilities of the cluster | Standard capabilities of the cluster |
SLA | 99.9% | 99.99% |
Price | Starting from 338.00 CNY | Starting from 2,500.00 CNY |
At present, data cannot be migrated from a tenant instance to a cluster instance. The corresponding feature may be provided in later versions.
Billing methods
ApsaraDB for OceanBase supports two billing methods: subscription (PREPAY) and pay-as-you-go (POSTPAY). The product price is determined by the instance type, series, region, deployment mode, node specifications, node quantity, storage type, and storage size.
Subscription
You must pay for the computing nodes when you create a database instance. You can select a fixed storage capacity or specify a custom storage capacity.
Pay-as-you-go
You do not need to pay any fee when you create a database instance. You can select a fixed storage capacity or specify a custom storage capacity. The computing nodes and storage space occupied by the instance are charged on an hourly basis. The payment is deducted from your account on an hourly basis.
NoteOceanBase Database is billed by hour, and a partial hour will be charged as a full hour. Always keep a sufficient balance to avoid service interruptions.
