    To use Alibaba Cloud DNS, you must add a domain name first. You can add domain names that are registered either with Alibaba Cloud or a third-party platform.

    • For domain names registered with Alibaba Cloud, they are automatically added to the Alibaba Cloud DNS list after registration, and they cannot be deleted.

    • For domain names registered with a third-party platform, you must manually add them to the DNS list in the Alibaba Cloud DNS console. Additionally, if the domain name is used by a DNS service provider other than Alibaba Cloud DNS, you must retrieve the domain name before adding it. The domain name can be deleted after being added.

    Add a domain name

    If your domain name is registered with a third-party platform, follow these steps.

    1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud DNS console.

    2. Click Add Domain Name.

    3. Enter your domain name in the dialog box and click Confirm.

    After a domain name is added to the DNS list, you can add a record to it to enable the service.

    Retrieve a domain name

    A domain name is allowed to be used by only one DNS service provider at a time. To add a domain name that is already being used by a DNS service provider, you must retrieve the domain name first. This function is designed for domain names registered with a third-party platform.

    To retrieve a domain name, follow these steps.

    1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud DNS console.

    2. Click Add Domain Name, and then enter your domain name in the dialog box. If the domain name is currently being used by other users, click Retrieve Domain Name.

    3. On the Verify Domain Ownership page, follow the TXT Record Verification instruction to add the specified TXT record for the domain name at its current DNS service provider.

    4. Click Verify. You will receive an email once the verification is successful.

    Delete a domain name

    For a domain name registered with a third-party platform, follow these steps to delete a domain name.

    1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud DNS console.

    2. On the Basic DNS page, click Delete under the domain name you want to delete.

    3. Click Confirm.

    Note: Deleting a domain name also deletes the DNS records of the domain name.
