alicloud-monitor-controller is an ACK system component that integrates your cluster with Alibaba Cloud observability services—Managed Service for Prometheus, Simple Log Service (SLS), and CloudMonitor. It synchronizes observability configurations—including alert rules—and manages their full lifecycle.

Upgrade considerations
To ensure new configurations sync properly, when you open the Alerts page, the system prompts you to upgrade alicloud-monitor-controller to the latest version if it is not current.Alerts page, ACK checks the alicloud-monitor-controller version and prompts you to upgrade if needed. Upgrades also update the default AckAlertRule CustomResource (CR) and resync alert rules.
If you previously used Advanced Configuration to navigate to a monitoring service and manually modified an official ACK alert rule, the system overwrites your custom changes with the official ACK alert rule template during the upgrade.Advanced Configuration, the upgrade overwrites your changes with the official alert rule template.
To preserve custom alert rules after upgrades, define them as CRs instead of modifying official rules through Advanced Configuration.

Troubleshooting
No application group appears in CloudMonitor
Check the following:

Verify the alicloud-monitor-controller pod is running in the
kube-systemnamespace. -
Check the component version and upgrade if needed.

Check the alicloud-monitor-controller logs for connection timeout errors and SDK errors.
No data appears in the CloudMonitor application group
Check the following:

Verify the instance name in the application group matches the application pod name.

If the instance name does not match, follow the troubleshooting steps for "No application group appears in CloudMonitor" above.
