How to select datasets and fields to complete basic analysis - Quick BI

Select a dataset

Select a dataset from the drop-down list in the upper-left corner. The list displays all datasets in the current workspace. You can switch to or search for another dataset.

Selecting a dataset from the drop-down list clears the content in the ad hoc analysis table.
Click the Switch Dataset to Create Ad hoc Analysis icon next to a dataset in the drop-down list. The dataset opens on a new page, and the existing table content is preserved.

Select a field

Select fields from the data panel and drag them to generate a table, as shown below.

Select a dimension field
- Dimension value mode
  
  By default, ad hoc query uses dimension value mode. You can view specific dimension values within a dimension field and drag them to generate a table.
  - By default, all dimension values are collapsed. Click the icon next to a dimension name to expand its values.
  - By default, a maximum of 10 dimension values can be displayed at a time. To view more dimension values, click Expand More.
    
    A maximum of 50 dimension values can be displayed. If not all values in a dimension can be shown, the blue-highlighted parentheses next to the dimension name indicate the number of currently displayed values out of the total. If the total number of dimension values exceeds 50, the exact count up to 50 is displayed.
  - Clicking Show More loads 10 additional dimension values. When 50 values are displayed, the Show More icon disappears and the message A maximum of 50 entries can be displayed. If you want to view more entries, enter a keyword to search. appears. After you click Show More, (10/50+) changes to (20/50+).
- Select multiple dimension values at a time in dimension value mode
  When you select a dimension field, all its dimension values are selected. When you select individual dimension values, only those values can be dragged to the row or column container. For example, selecting Region selects all regions. To select only specific regions such as Northeast, East, Central, and North, select those dimension values individually and drag them to the table.
  - You can select multiple dimension fields, dimension values, or measure fields at the same time.
  - You can select multiple dimension values only in one dimension field at a time.
    
    Hierarchical dimensions allow cross-dimension selection. For example, you can select Northeast China, East China, and specific provinces such as Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, and Guangxi.
  - You can drag only one type of the following items at a time: dimension fields, dimension values, and measure fields.
- Dimension mode
  
  Select Only Dimension in the left-side navigation pane to switch from dimension value mode to dimension field mode. In this mode, selecting a dimension field selects all its dimension values, similar to the Data tab on the dashboard and workbook creation pages.
  
  Double-click a dimension field name or drag it to generate a table. For example, selecting the Transportation Method field selects all three dimension values under it.
Select a measure field

Double-click a measure or drag it to a table.

When you select multiple measures for a column, a measure list is generated. You can drag measures in the list to reorder them.

Field operations

The following figure shows how to access dimension field operations.

The following table describes the available dimension field operations.

Operation	Description
Rename	Enter a display name to rename the dimension field.
Alignment	Left-aligned by default. You can set center, left, or right alignment.
Sorting	No sorting by default. Ascending and descending order are supported.
Delete (area)	Delete the corresponding dimension field. In this example, the dimension "Area" is deleted.

The following figure shows how to access measure field operations.

The following table describes the available measure field operations.

Operation	Description
Rename	Enter a display name to rename the measure.
Alignment	Right-aligned by default. You can set center, left, or right alignment.
Aggregation method	Sum by default. Supported methods: average, count, deduplication count, maximum, minimum, start, and last time points.
Display Format	None by default. You can set Integer, Keep One Decimal, Keep Two Decimal, Percentage, Percentage One Decimal, Percentage Two Decimal, and Custom Format.
Delete (Order Amount)	Delete the corresponding measure field. In this example, the measure Order Amount is deleted.

Query Control

In ad hoc query, drag fields such as date, text, and number fields to generate filters. Filters are displayed as drop-down lists by default. For date fields, you can configure the Date Selection parameter.
