This topic describes the systems and migration scenarios supported by the Alibaba Cloud migration service. Service migration depends on factors such as operating systems, source platforms, and general scope of migration.

Supported operating systems

The migration service supports the following Windows and Linux operating systems:
  • Windows Server 2003/2008/2012/2016
  • CentOS 5/6/7
  • Ubuntu 10/12/14/16/17/18
  • Debian 7/8/9
  • RedHat 5/6/7
  • SUSE 11.4/12.1/12.2
  • Amazon Linux 2014 or later
  • Oracle Linux 5/6/7

Supported server platforms

The Alibaba Cloud migration service supports physical-to-virtual (P2V) and virtual-to-virtual (V2V) migration without depending on the underlying environment. The service is also compatible with various file formats, partition types, and disk types. It can also automatically process specified system services. Currently, the following server platforms are supported:
  • On-premises IDCs
  • Local VMs (VMware, VirtualBox, Xen, or KVM)
  • Alibaba Cloud ECS (across accounts or regions)
  • AWS EC2
  • Azure VM
  • Google Cloud Compute Engine
  • Huawei ECS
  • Tencent Cloud CVM
  • Other mainstream cloud platforms such as UCloud, e-Surfing Cloud, and QingCloud

Supported scopes of migration

The cloud migration service can process a large number of concurrent migration tasks. The Cloud Migration tool batch distributes tasks or batch invokes tasks through the CLI by running automated scripts that you create.

The migration service supports the following scopes of migration:

  • Small-scale migration: less than 10 servers
  • Medium-scale migration: 10 to 100 servers
  • Large-scale migration: 100 to 1,000 servers
