This topic describes subsequent operations that you must perform after you migrate your servers to ensure that your system can operate properly on the cloud.

Create an instance

After you migrate a number of servers to the cloud, you obtain the same number of custom images. You must use these custom images to create instances and test the system.

  • Create a small number of instances

If you want to create a small number of instances, we recommend that you create the instances by using custom images on the ECS instance buy page in the ECS console. When you create an instance, you can select Pay-As-You-Go as the billing method, and specify the VPC, VSwitch, and security group. After the instance is created, you can modify its IP address to the specified internal IP address.

  • Create a large number of instances
If you want to create a large number of instances, note the following points:
    • Create pay-as-you-go instances for testing, and then convert these instances to subscription instances.
    • Use the subnet IP address of the original system to maintain the previous service scenario.
    • Use an appropriate tool to create instances in batches.

To write a script to call Alibaba Cloud CLI and use the CLI to call the relevant API, follow these steps:

  1. Click here to download Alibaba Cloud CLI and configure an AccessKey ID and AccessKey secret.
  2. Call the RunInstances operation to create an instance.
Assume that the region in which you want to create an instance is cn-qingdao, the image ID is m-xxxxxxxxx, the VSwitch is vsw-xxxxxxx, the subnet IP address is 10.0.0.10, and the instance type is ecs.n4.small. You can call the operation by using the following CLI command:
aliyun ecs CreateInstance --RegionId 'cn-qingdao' --ImageId 'm-xxxxxxxxx' --VSWitchId 'vsw-xxxxxxx' --PrivateIP '10.0.0.10' --InstanceType 'ecs.n4.small'
  3. Write a script that contains the image ID and the subnet IP address generated by the Cloud Migration tool, and then run the script to call Alibaba Cloud CLI to automatically read the information and create instances in batches.
Note After the instances are created and started, you can use Cloud Assistant to manage and configure the instances. For more information, see Cloud Assistant overview.

Check a migrated Linux server

Follow these steps to check a migrated Linux server:

  1. Check whether the system disk data is complete.
  2. If data disks exist, you must attach the data disks. For more information, see Attach a data disk.
  3. Check whether the network service is normal.
  4. Check whether other system services are operating normally.

Check a migrated Windows server

Follow these steps to check a migrated Windows server:

  1. Check whether the system disk data is complete.
  2. If a data disk is missing, open the Disk Management utility to check whether the drive letter is missing.
  3. After the automatic recovery of the file system access permission is complete, select whether to restart the instance.
Note If the Goto Aliyun Restore Tool does not automatically start during the first startup attempt, execute the C:\go2aliyun_prepare\go2aliyun_restore.exe program to manually invoke the recovery process. Before you run the command, ensure that the number of disks and drive letter paths on the instance are consistent with those of the source system.
  4. Check whether the network service is normal.
  5. Check whether other system services are operating normally.
