E-MapReduce:Subscription

Last Updated:Dec 21, 2023

E-MapReduce (EMR) supports the subscription and pay-as-you-go billing methods. This topic describes the subscription billing method.

Billing

Item

Description

Billing rule

Subscription is a billing method that requires you to pay for resources before you can use the resources. The subscription billing method allows you to reserve resources. Compared with the pay-as-you-go billing method, the subscription billing method is more cost-effective in most business scenarios.

Scenarios

The subscription billing method is suitable for the following business scenarios:

  • The usage period of resources can be estimated.

  • The resource usage does not frequently fluctuate.

  • Resources are required for long-term use.

Pricing

You can view the pricing of a subscription EMR cluster in the order that is generated when you purchase the cluster in the EMR console.

Billing cycle

The billing cycle of a subscription resource is the time commitment you make when you purchase the resource. The time is based on UTC+8. The billing cycle begins at the point in time when the subscription resource is purchased or renewed, which is accurate to seconds, and ends at 00:00:00 on the day after the expiration date.

Note

The unit for the billing cycles of subscription resources is calendar years or months. Examples:

  • You purchased a subscription EMR cluster at 10:23:30 on January 1, 2023. The subscription duration of the cluster is three months. In this case, the subscription EMR cluster expires at 00:00:00 on April 2, 2023.

  • If your subscription cluster has pay-as-you-go resources, bills are generated for the involved ECS instances and EMR service based on the pay-as-you-go billing method when you use the EMR cluster. For more information, see Pay-as-you-go.

  • If your subscription cluster has node groups that are configured with auto scaling rules, bills are generated for the automatically added ECS instances and the involved EMR service based on the pay-as-you-go billing method when you use the EMR cluster. For more information about auto scaling rules, see Add auto scaling rules.

Refunding

You cannot perform operations in the EMR console to request refunds of your subscription clusters.

Overdue payments

For more information, see Overdue payments.

Impact after instance expiration

When instances in a subscription EMR cluster expire, limits are imposed on the following operations:

  • Service-related operations, such as addition, restart, stop, and parameter configuration

  • Operations related to user management

  • Operations related to auto scaling

  • Node-related operations, including scaling and configuration upgrade

  • Display of application performance monitoring information

  • Operations related to bootstrap actions and scripts
