Elastic Container Instance (ECI) provides a maintenance-free, scalable, and cost-effective environment for quickly starting and running containers.
You only need to provide container images to use the service, without worrying about managing servers. You do not need to create or maintain clusters in advance, or plan the resource capacity for running containers. Instead, you can focus on business innovations.
Using the global computing infrastructure of Alibaba Cloud as a resource pool, ECI provides you with nearly unlimited computing resources of various types. The resources include CPU resources, resources with high clock speeds, GPU resources, and resources for accelerating big data processing on local disks. All these resources support a large number of concurrent workloads, and are available to you in an on-demand way.
With the pay-as-you-go billing method, you are only charged for the resources consumed when ECIs are running. Working with Kubernetes or a user-created scheduling system, ECI supports auto scaling based on traffic to reduce the costs caused by idle resources.
You can start ECIs in seconds for handling burst traffic. You do not need to estimate the peak traffic of your cluster or business in advance. ECI can scale out resources on demand to easily cope with burst traffic, even when the traffic is increased by a hundred times.
Compatibility with Kubernetes
Pods in a Kubernetes cluster can be directly scheduled to ECI. ECI is seamlessly integrated with Alibaba Cloud Container Service for Kubernetes and Alibaba Cloud Serverless Kubernetes. You can also connect ECI to a user-created Kubernetes cluster through Virtual Kubelet.
ECI can be automatically integrated with Alibaba Cloud services, such as Log Service, Apsara File Storage NAS, Alibaba Cloud disks, and Application Real-Time Monitoring Service (ARMS).
