Time series insights

Last Updated: May 27, 2020

The time series insight feature of the Time Series Database (TSDB) console allows you to query data and save query items. The TSDB console automatically saves the query items that you have configured. You can switch between the query items that you have created or added, and manage query items in the TSDB console. For more information, see Create query items, Add query items, Edit query items, and Delete query items.

The time series insight feature also optimizes the way in which the query results are visualized. This feature offers an intuitive display of the query results by using methods such as adaptive coordinate graphs and timelines of time series data. This allows you to easily view and analyze the query results. For more information, see View query items.

Notes:

You can only query data that is stored in your local browsers. If you clear data from browsers, the automatically saved query items are deleted.

Create query items

Procedure

  1. Log on to the TSDB console. On the Instances page, click Manage in the Actions column of the target instance.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane of the page that appears, click Timeseries Insight.

  3. On the Timeseries Insight page, click Create.

  4. In the Edit Query Data dialog box that appears, configure the query conditions.

  5. In the Starting Time spin boxes, specify the start time. This field is required.

  6. In the End Time spin boxes, specify the end time. This field is required.

Note: You can query the data at a single time point by setting the Starting Time and End Time fields to the same value.

  7. Select a metric from the Metrics drop-down list. This field is required. If you want to query metrics in multi-value data models, you can enter a metric name and an at sign (@) in the search box and click Query. Then, you can select fields from the drop-down list.

  8. On the right of the Space Aggregator field, select an aggregation method for timelines. This field is required.

If multiple timelines are generated by various devices for one metric, you must perform space aggregation to merge the data of multiple dimensions into one timeline. The aggregation methods include avg, count, sum, max, min, and none.

  9. On the right of the Tags field, click Add, and select a tag key and tag value. If you want to add more tags, click Add again.

TSDB allows you to filter data by multiple tags.

    • The operator that is used for values of the same tag is OR, for example, city = Beijing or Shanghai.
    • The operator that is used for different tags is AND, for example, city = Beijing and region = Haidian.
  10. Select a group from the Groups drop-down list, and click Add. This field is optional.

You can group data by tag and tag value, and compare data in different groups.

    • Multiple groups are created for different values of a single tag.
    • Multiple Cartesian product groups are created for multiple values of different tags.
  11. Turn on or off the downsampling feature based on your business needs.

In TSDB, the time granularity for raw data collection is seconds. The downsampling feature is disabled by default, and the data is displayed based on seconds.

If the time granularity cannot meet your needs, or you want to view data based on a more coarse-grained granularity, you can enable the downsampling feature. For example, you can view data based on a granularity of 30 minutes or 12 hours.

  12. After you enable the downsampling feature, specify the Downsampling Aggregator and Sampling Time Interval fields.

  13. Click OK.

Add query items

Procedure

  1. On the Timeseries Insight page, click Add.

  2. In the Edit Query Data dialog box that appears, configure the query conditions. For more information, see Create query items.

  3. Click OK.

Edit query items

Procedure

  1. In the Query Item section of the Timeseries Insight page, click the Edit icon for the target item.

  2. In the Edit Query Data dialog box that appears, configure the query conditions. For more information, see Create query items.

  3. Click OK.

Delete query items

Procedure

  1. In the Query Item section of the Timeseries Insight page, click the Delete icon for the target query item.

  2. In the Confirm to delete the configuration information? message that appears, click OK.

View query items

Procedure

  1. In the Query Item section of the Timeseries Insight page, click the View icon for the target query item.

  2. In the workspace that displays data, perform the following operations:

  • In the Timing Information section, move the pointer to view data at different time points.
  • In the Timing Information section, use the scroll wheel to change the time granularity.
  • In the Time section, select a timeline from the drop-down list and view the data of the timeline.
  • In the Time section, adjust the slider in the current timeline to view data at different time points of the timeline.
