Configure a CNAME record

Last Updated: May 06, 2021

Alibaba Cloud DNS is a distributed database service that points domain names to IP addresses. You can configure CNAME records in the Alibaba Cloud DNS console. DNS can resolve a domain name to the public IP address of a Classic Load Balancer (CLB) instance based on the configured CNAME record. This improves user experience when users access the CLB instance from the Internet.

Context

For example, the domain name of the website that you want to access is www.aliyun.com. The website runs on an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance that uses the public IP address 1.1.1.1. After you create a CLB instance, the system allocates the public IP address 2.2.2.2 to the CLB instance. You want to specify the ECS instance as a backend server of the CLB instance and resolve the domain name www.aliyun.com to 2.2.2.2. We recommend that you use an A record to resolve the domain name to the IP address.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud DNS console.

  2. Click Add Domain Name to add a domain name.

  3. On the Manage DNS page, find the domain name that you want to manage and click Configure in the Actions column.
