Origin host

Last Updated: Nov 15, 2018

Function

The origin host function allows you to specify the domain name of the Web server that a CDN node needs to access during the back-to-origin process. Supported domain types include CDN domain, origin-site domain, and custom domain.

Note:If an IP origin site is bound to multiple domain names or sites, you must specify the domain name (origin host) to which the requests are sent. Otherwise, the back-to-origin process fails.

Default settings for the origin host:

  • For IP origin sites, the CDN domain is selected for the origin host by default.
  • For OSS origin sites, the origin-site domain is selected for the origin host by default.

Differences between the origin site and origin host:

  • Origin site: determines the specific IP address requested during the back-to-origin process.
  • Back-to-origin host: determines to which site of the IP address the back-to-origin request is sent.

Note:Currently, SNI back-to-origin is not supported.

Procedure

  1. Go to the Domain Names page in the VOD console, select a domain name, and click Configure.

  2. Click Content Back-to-Origin.

  3. On the Origin Host page, click Modify.

  4. Enable the Origin Host, select the domain type, and click Confirm.

Examples

  • If the origin site is a domain origin site, the origin site is set to example1.com, and the origin host is set to example2.com, the back-to-origin request is sent to example2.com, which is resolved from example1.com.

  • If the origin site is an IP origin site, the origin site is set to 1.1.1.1, and the origin host is set to example2.com, the back-to-origin request is sent to example2.com on host 1.1.1.1.
