ApsaraVideo VOD provides the content moderation feature. You can use this feature to detect illegal and non-compliant content such as terrorist, politically sensitive, and pornographic content, advertisements, undesirable scenes, and abuse in image, video, text, and audio files. This reduces the cost of manual review and improves the content quality, platform maintenance, and user experience. This topic describes the benefits, features, and scenarios of content moderation, and how to use these features.

Benefits

  • ApsaraVideo VOD provides basic review capabilities that are the same as those of AliGreenNet. You can use content moderationto detect illegal and non-compliant content such as terrorist, politically sensitive, and pornographic content, advertisements, undesirable scenes, and abuse in image, video, text, and audio files.

  • ApsaraVideo VOD combines the review processes for all resources about a media asset, including the video, audio, images (such as snapshots and thumbnails), and text (such as titles, descriptions, and tags) in one review task. This way, you need to submit only one review task to process all your media resources in an efficient manner.

  • ApsaraVideo VOD supports automated reviews based on workflows and custom templates. After a media file is uploaded to ApsaraVideo VOD, the system automatically reviews the file and returns the review results in real time.

  • The content moderation features of ApsaraVideo VOD can be used in every stage such as media asset management, editing, production, distribution, and playback to meet your business requirements in various scenarios. For example, you can transcode, discard, or archive a video after review. Non-compliant clips can also be automatically cropped before distribution.

Automated review

The automated review feature is implemented based on a large amount of labeled data and deep learning algorithms. This feature detects illegal and non-compliant content, such as terrorist, politically sensitive, and pornographic content. You can use this feature to review videos, thumbnails, and titles in multiple dimensions such as audio, text, and visual display. You can use the automated review feature in multiple scenarios such as content review on media platforms. The automated review feature can improve the review efficiency.

Automated review

Manual review

ApsaraVideo VOD provides the manual review feature that you can use to detect and block illegal and non-compliant videos in advance or take them offline. This reduces the adverse impact caused by illegal and non-compliant content.

Manual review

Security IP address preview

ApsaraVideo VOD provides the security IP address preview feature to ensure that only users whose IP addresses are added to review security groups can play videos in the Reviewing or Blocked state. In most cases, this feature is used for internal reviews.

Scenarios

  • You can use the automated review feature to check whether illegal and non-compliant content exists in short videos or user-generated content (UGC). Then, perform manual reviews on videos that contain suspected violations. This reduces the manual review workload.

  • You can use the automated review feature to check whether illegal and non-compliant content such as terrorist and politically sensitive content exists on media platforms or in on-demand videos. This helps you manage content violations.

Usage notes

  • The final review result of an audio or video file is determined by the results of automated review and manual review. If the results of automated review and manual review are different, the manual review result takes precedence over the automated review result.

  • Only audio and video files in the Normal state can be played on other platforms. You can play audio and video files in the Blocked or Reviewing state only by using the ApsaraVideo VOD console or IP addresses in review security groups described in Security IP address preview. However, unauthorized users can play the audio or video files if the playback URLs are leaked. You cannot call API operations or use SDKs to obtain the playback URLs of audio or video files that are in the Blocked or Reviewing state.

How to use the content moderation feature
