Elastic High Performance Computing:Stop and start a cluster

Last Updated:May 19, 2023

If all nodes of your cluster are pay-as-you-go Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances, you can stop the cluster when you do not use it. This helps you save costs.

Stop a cluster

You can stop only a cluster that is in the Running or Exception state.

If you stop a subscription compute node, its billing is not affected. If you stop a pay-as-you-go compute node for which you have enabled the economical mode, you are no longer charged for its computing resources. For more information, see Economical mode.

  1. Log on to the Elastic High Performance Computing (E-HPC) console.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, click Cluster.

  4. On the Cluster page, find the cluster that you want to stop. Choose More > Stop Cluster.

  5. In the Stop Cluster dialog box, click OK.

The cluster enters the Stopping state and then changes to the Stopped state.

Start a cluster

You can start a cluster only in the Stopped state.

  1. Log on to the E-HPC console.

  2. In the top navigation bar, select a region.

  3. In the left-side navigation pane, click Cluster.

  4. On the Cluster page, find the cluster that you want to start. Choose More > Start Cluster.

  5. In the Start Cluster dialog box, click OK.

The cluster enters the Initializing state and then changes to the Running state.
