How to use the console

Last Updated: Feb 12, 2020

The Function Compute console of Alibaba Cloud provides you with a visualized operation interface to better manage your applications. The console is designed to be easy to use by simplifying most of your work through interactive operations.

In this guide, you learn how to use the Function Compute console to complete the following operations:

Create service

A service is an object that helps you organize and manage resources in Function Compute. One service can have multiple functions, and these functions share the resources configured for the service. For example, the log data of all functions of a service is collected to the same Logstore. To create a service in the console, follow these steps:

  1. Log on to the Function Compute console.

  2. Select a region.

  3. Click the Icon button or click Create Service.

  4. In the Create Service page:

    1. Enter the Service Name, such as newService.
    2. (Optional) Enter the Description, such as Hello, this is my first FC service.
    3. (Optional) Enable the Advanced Settings:
      1. Click the Drop button of Log Project option, and select a Log project.
      2. Click the Drop button of LogStore option, and select a Logstore. After the parameters in Log Configs are set, the log data of all functions of the service is collected to the Logstore that you have configured. For more information about how Function Compute uses Log Service, see Function logs.
      3. Click the Drop button of Role Operation option, and select a system Policy. After the parameters in Role Config are set, Function Compute can assume this service role to access other Alibaba Cloud services. For more information about roles, see Introduction.AdvancedSettings
    4. Click OK to confirm your action.

Create function

Functions are segments of application code that execute a specific function, and are used in system scheduling and running. Functions are associated with services. One service can have multiple functions that share the logs and role information configured for the service. However, the functions remain independent of each other. The process of creating a function in the console is as follows:

  1. Log on to the Function Compute console.

  2. Select a service.

  3. Click the Icon button or click Create Function.

  4. Select a template. Function Compute provides various function templates to help you quickly build an application. For more information, see Use template. In most cases, you can select an empty function template.

  5. (Optional) Create a trigger for a function. You can either create the trigger when creating the function, or after the function is created. For more information, see Create a trigger.

  6. Set the service name, function name, and runtime environment.

  7. (Optional) Set the Environment variables and function parameters.

  8. (Optional) If the function execution requires a permission currently unavailable to the service role, grant the role that permission. For more information about permissions, see RAM.

  9. Verify that all settings are correct and click Create.

Create trigger

Triggers are used to call functions. For example, if an OSS trigger is configured for a function, the function is executed when an object in OSS is created or deleted (the actual action is specified when the trigger is configured). If a Time trigger is configured, function execution is triggered at the specified time. You can use any of the following methods to create a trigger:

  1. Log on to the Function Compute console.

  2. Select a region.

  3. Select a service.

  4. Select a function.

  5. Click the Trigger tab and click Create Trigger.

Different triggers require different configurations. For more information, see the following topics:

View service monitoring

For more information about service monitoring, see the following topics Use monitoring metrics and Query metrics data.

  1. Log on to the Function Compute console.

  2. Select a region.

  3. Select a service.

  4. Click Monitoring, you are redirected to the Cloud Monitor console to view the monitoring data.
