How can I manually install and configure a DB management GUI tool for Web Hosting?

Last Updated: Jun 13, 2017

After you have purchased Web Hosting, the system will create a default database for you to use. You can find the database server connection address, user name, and password in the Account Information section of the Web Hosting Console Instance Details page (see the screen shot below):dbinfo

The Web Hosting console integrates a graphical Database Management System (DMS). Using this system, you can easily connect to the database to define and create tables for your web applications, such as WordPress. Unfortunately, the English version of the Web Hosting DMS portal is still in development (coming soon). If you need an English database management tool, you can easily install popular database management tools on your own. Two popular choices are:

  1. MySQL-FrontMySQL-Front is a client for Windows that allows you to manage a local or remote DB through a client interface. If you are using a Microsoft Windows system, you can easily download this free GUI tool from its official website, After installation, you can easily connect the Web Hosting database, by using the connection address, username and password we mentioned above.mysqlfront
  2. phpMyAdminIf you don’t want to install a client on your local computer, you can install phpMyAdmin on your Web Hosting machine, and manage database through your web browser.

phpMyAdmin is free open source software which you can download here:

After you download the phpMyAdmin package (the latest is at the time of writing) you need to upload and decompress the zip file through the “file management” menu in the Web Hosting console.extract

Once uploaded and decompressed, locate the file “config.default.php” in /htdocs/phpMyAdmin/libraries. Download this file, and modify the following sections in the file:

2.1 Modify the MySQL server address to match the database connection addressdbhost2.2. Modify the MySQL username and passwordmodifypassAfter configuration, please upload the file to /htdocs/phpMyAdmin/libaries so that it overwrites the original configuration file.

You should now be able to access phpMyAdmin through the web portal at http://yourwebhostingdomain/phpMyAdmin/index.php and connect to the RDSDATABASE database using the MySQL username and password added to config.default.php previously.phpmyadmin1phpmyadmin2.png
