Manage an EIP address

Last Updated: Nov 22, 2017

You can bind an EIP address to an ECS instance in a VPC so that the ECS instance can communicate with the Internet, and unbind it when the Internet communication is not needed.

Create an EIP address

  1. Log on to the EIP console and click Create EIP.

  2. On the purchase page, select the region, bandwidth, and purchase quantity for the EIP address, and click Buy Now.

  3. Complete the payment.

Bind an EIP address

Before binding an EIP address to an ECS instance, ensure that the following conditions are met:

  • The regions of the EIP address and ECS instance to be bound are the same.

  • The ECS instance to be bound is not allocated any public IP address.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the EIP console.

  2. On the Elastic IP Address List page, choose a region. All the EIP addresses under the selected region are displayed.

  3. Click Bind next to the target EIP address.

  4. In the Bind dialog box, select the ECS instance. Click OK.

Note: You can only bind an EIP address to an ECS instance in Running or Stopped status.

  5. On the Elastic IP Address List page, click Refresh in the upper-right corner.

When the EIP address status is changed to Allocated, it indicates that the ECS instance bound with the EIP address can communicate with the Internet.

Unbind and release an EIP address

Before releasing an EIP address, you must unbind it.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the EIP console.

  2. On the Elastic IP Address List page, click the region of the Elastic IP address to be released.

  3. Next to the target EIP address, click Unbind.

  4. In the Unbind Elastic IP Addresses dialog box, click OK to confirm.

  5. Click Refresh in the upper-right corner. When EIP address status is changed to Available, the EIP has been unbound.

  6. Click More > Release. In the Release Elastic IP Addresses dialog box, click OK to release the unbound EIP address.
