    To comply with relevant laws and regulations, you must complete identity verification for your Alibaba Cloud account if you plan to purchase or use cloud products and services deployed in the Chinese mainland. This topic describes how to complete the verification process for an individual account. Completing verification establishes you as the legal owner of the account.

    Overview of the individual identity verification flow

    The process consists of two steps: submitting your verification information and a manual review. The manual review takes about 3 business days. The verification result is sent to the email address associated with your account.

    You cannot change the account type after verification is complete. To determine whether you need to complete identity verification for an enterprise account, see Identity verification overview.

    Preparations

    Before you begin, make sure that your Account Type is Personal. Prepare a valid government-issued ID from the same Country/Region that is specified for your account. Provide a clear and complete color scan or digital photo. You can view your Account Type and Country/Region information in the Basic Information section of the Account Center. For more information, see Modify basic account information. Supported ID types for individuals include the following:

    • Passport

    • Driver's License

    Note

    This topic is for individual users of the Alibaba Cloud International Website (alibabacloud.com). If you have only a Chinese resident ID card, go to the Alibaba Cloud China Website (aliyun.com) to register and purchase.

    Tips for a successful submission

    Best practices:

    • File format: JPG, JPEG, PNG, or PDF.

    • File size: Upload up to two files. Each file must not exceed 5 MB. The ID must occupy at least 40% of the image.

    • Ensure the photo of the ID is clear, shows all four corners, contains legible text, and has no reflections or dark shadows. Upload the file from a frontal angle. Do not rotate the image by 90 or 180 degrees.

    • Avoid using screenshots, photocopies, or edited images.

    • Before submitting your information, verify that everything matches exactly what appears on your ID.

    Avoid the following:

    • Uploading an ID that does not belong to you.

    • Modifying or forging ID information.

    • Submitting an expired or invalid ID.

    Submit verification information

    1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud Account Center and go to the Identity Verification page. In the Verify Your Identity - Individual Account section, click Verify Now.

    2. Enter and submit the following information required for verification:

    • Document Type: Select Passport or Driver's License.

    • Upload Document: Upload a clear, color electronic copy of your passport or driver's license. For more information, see Tips for a smooth review.

    • First Name: Enter your legal first name exactly as shown on your ID.

    • Last Name: Enter your legal last name exactly as it appears on your ID. If you do not have a last name, enter your first name again.

    • ID Number: Enter your passport or driver's license number.

    • Purchase cloud resources in Chinese mainland or use acceleration regions that include Chinese mainland: Select an option as needed.

      • Yes: Indicates that an independent compliance review will be initiated. This status is displayed separately from the identity verification status.

      • No: You do not plan to purchase resources in the Chinese mainland. After verification, you can change your selection for Purchase cloud resources in the Chinese mainland or use acceleration regions that include it on the Identity Verification page.

    • Read and select the confirmation checkbox to declare that the information you provided is true, accurate, and complete.

    • Click Verify to complete the request.

    Confirm authentication result

    After you submit your materials, your request enters the manual review stage. Track the verification progress in real time on the Identity Verification page:

    • Under Review: Your request has been successfully submitted and is being processed. The review typically takes about 3 business days.

    • Verification Successful: Your identity information has been verified. You can now purchase eligible products and services.

    • Failed: The request was not approved. Check the specific reason provided on the page, correct the information, and resubmit your request.

    1. If you do not receive feedback within 3 business days, check your spam folder. If you still cannot find an update, contact technical support for assistance.

    2. If you have questions about a Failed result or believe it was a mistake, contact technical support.

    Q: How can I serve users in the Chinese mainland without completing identity verification?

    A: Choose the China (Hong Kong) region. This region:

    • Does not require users to complete identity verification.

    • Provides low-latency access for users in the Chinese mainland.

    Adding a plan to purchase cloud resources in the Chinese mainland

    Q: What if I need to purchase resources in the Chinese mainland after my initial verification is successful?

    You can update your purchase intention at any time:

    1. Go to the Identity Verification results page and ensure that your status is Verification Successful.

    2. In the Purchase cloud resources in the Chinese mainland or use acceleration regions that include it section, read and accept the terms, and then click Confirm.

    3. The system automatically starts a special compliance review for resources in the Chinese mainland.
