IoT Platform:Supported regions

Last Updated:Sep 19, 2023

This topic describes the definition of regions in Alibaba Cloud and how to select a region. This topic also describes all regions in which IoT Platform is available and the instances that are supported in each region.

Definition

Regions are geographical locations where Alibaba Cloud data centers are deployed. Regions are defined based on the cities where data centers reside. For example, the China (Shanghai) region indicates that the data center resides in Shanghai, China.

Select a region

Important

When you create or purchase an Alibaba Cloud resource, you must select the region where you want to deploy the resource. After the resource is created or purchased, you cannot change the region where the resource is deployed.

The following table describes the items that you must take note of when you select a region.

Item

Description

Geographical location

A region that is closer to the geographical location of your users provides lower latency and higher access speed.

We recommend that you select a region based on your requirements for network latency.

Communication between cloud services over an internal network

Important

If you purchased a cloud network service to connect cloud services, ignore this item.

  • If you do not require cloud services to communicate with each other over an internal network, deploy the services in different regions or in the same region.

  • If you need the cloud services to communicate with each other over an internal network, deploy the services in the same region.

Resource price

You can select a region based on your budget.

The prices of resources may vary based on the regions. For more information, see the product page or buy page of your resource.

Regions

Regions are defined based on the cities in which data centers reside. After you create a resource, you cannot change the region where the resource is deployed. The following table describes the mappings between the supported regions, the cities in which the data centers reside, and the region IDs.
