To provide better services, Alibaba Cloud officially launched the following commercial editions of Service Mesh (ASM) instances on April 1, 2022: Enterprise Edition and Ultimate Edition. The commercial editions provide various features, strong support for large-scale clusters, and comprehensive technical support. For more information about the billable items and pricing of the commercial editions, see Billing rules.
After the commercial editions are launched, you can still use the ASM instances of free editions that you created earlier, including ASM instances of Standard Edition and Professional Edition.
Upgrade ASM instances from a free edition to a commercial edition
We recommend that you do not use a free edition in production environments. We recommend that you upgrade your ASM instances from a free edition to a commercial edition. For more information, see Change the edition of an ASM instance.
Feature changes in Standard Edition
ASM allows you to create only one Standard Edition instance under a single Alibaba Cloud account from July 15, 2022. The existing instances are not affected.
From August 1, 2022, newly created Standard Edition instances can no longer be connected to self-managed clusters, edge Kubernetes clusters, and multi-cluster management is no longer supported for such instances. The existing instances are not affected.

Automatic upgrade of ASM instances from Professional Edition for public preview to Enterprise Edition
From August 1, 2022, ASM instances of Professional Edition for public preview are automatically upgraded to Enterprise Edition. If you want to use editions, manage your instances based on your business requirements. For more information, see Billing rules.
