Cloud Data Transfer:Getting started

Last Updated:Apr 10, 2024

This topic describes how to activate Cloud Data Transfer (CDT) and enable CDT billing to provide statistics and bills for data transfers in a centralized manner.

Usage notes

Take note of the following items before you use CDT:

  • CDT activation is not subject to any restrictions.

  • CDT is an out-of-the-box service and does not involve resource creation. Therefore, you are not charged for the activation or use of the CDT service. The fees that are displayed in CDT bills are incurred when other Alibaba Cloud products consume data transfer resources.

  • After CDT is activated and used to bill data transfers for Alibaba Cloud products, all existing and new pay-by-data-transfer instances are automatically billed in CDT in a centralized manner, and pay-by-bandwidth instances continue to be billed in the Alibaba Cloud products. You can choose Expenses > User Center to go to the Expenses and Costs console and click Bill Details to view the billing data in CDT.

  • Check whether you have a pay-by-data-transfer instance. If you only activate CDT but do not have a pay-by-data-transfer instance, you do not enjoy the data transfer benefits of CDT.

  • After CDT is activated, you can obtain a quota of 200 GB free Internet data transfers per month. Among the 200 GB of free Internet data transfers, 20 GB can be used in global regions (including regions in the Chinese mainland) and the other 180 GB can be used only in regions outside the Chinese mainland.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the CDT console.

  2. Click Activate Now. In the dialog box that appears, read the message and the terms of service carefully, select I have read and agree to the Alibaba Cloud International Website Product Terms of Service, and then click Activate.

After you activate CDT, the data transfers incurred by the following services are automatically billed by CDT. Upgraded is displayed in the Upgrade Status column of these services. For existing instances of these services, no additional operations are required. CDT billing is automatically enabled for the instances. If no relevant instances are created, you can create an instance by referring to the corresponding topic.

  3. (Optional) In the service list, click Upgrade in the Actions column of a service whose Upgrade Status is Not Upgraded based on your business requirements.

  4. In the Activate CDT and Upgrade to CDT Billing Mode dialog box, read the message and the terms of service carefully, select I have read and agree to the Alibaba Cloud International Website Product Terms of Service, and then click OK.

After the upgrade is complete, the Upgrade Status of the service changes to Upgraded. CDT is used to bill the Internet data transfers or inter-region data transfers of the new and existing pay-by-data-transfer instances of the service. If no relevant instances are created, you can create an instance by referring to the corresponding topic.

Changes in bills after CDT is activated

After CDT is activated, all existing and new pay-by-data-transfer instances of services mentioned in the preceding section are automatically billed in CDT in a centralized manner, and pay-by-bandwidth instances are still billed in the original Alibaba Cloud services. For some services, you need to manually enable CDT billing. You can view the billing details on the Bill Details page in User Center.

  1. Log on to the Alibaba Cloud console and choose Expenses > User Center in the top navigation bar.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Bills > Bill Details.

  3. On the Bill Details page, click the Billing Details tab.

  4. In the Product Details field of the Billing Details tab, select cloud data transfer-internet or Cloud Data Transfer - Inter Region to view the billing details of Internet data transfers or inter-region data transfers in CDT.

For more information about the fields of the billing details in CDT, see Query bills.
