Upload website programs to a Web Hosting instance

Last Updated: May 18, 2018

After you have established a Web Hosting instance, upload the compressed package of website source code and data to the instance by FTP client.

Before you upload website programs to a Web Hosting instance, note the following:

  • Only ZIP and TAR files are supported.

  • A package with password cannot be decompressed. Therefore, do not upload a compressed file with password.

  • Page time-out may occur when large files are compressed. We recommend that you compress files in batches. If the page times out, do not repeatedly compress the files. Instead, log on to FTP to check what folders and files have been compressed.

  • The compressed package cannot contain files or folders named with Chinese characters. Otherwise, the compressed file may not be properly decompressed.

  • Select and compress all the files of the website source code, instead of the folder that stores the website source code. In this way, when you decompress the package, you get the source files but not the upper-level folder. Otherwise, error message appears when you use the test domain to debug the website program.

Procedure

Compress the website source code

Follow these steps to compress website source code written in your local computer.

  1. Open the folder that stores all the website source code.
  2. Select all the files of the website source code. Right click and select Add to the Compressed File from the shortcut menu.

Note: Select and compress all the files of the website source code, instead of the folder that stores the website source code. In this way, when you decompress the package, you get the source files but not the upper-level folder. Otherwise, error message appears when you use the test domain to debug the website program.

Upload the compressed package to the FTP site

After compression, upload the package to the FTP site of the Web Hosting instance by FTP client. For FTP client, we recommend FileZilla.

For detail procedure, see FileZilla user manual.
