Resource Orchestration Service:Use a scenario to migrate resources

Last Updated:Dec 27, 2023

If you want to migrate a collection of resources and dependencies between the resources, you can create a resource migration scenario.

Background information

When you create a resource migration scenario, Resource Orchestration Service (ROS) filters all resources within the specified scope and generates a source node to store the resources. ROS also adds new resources that are required for the scenario and generates a new node to migrate resources. After you initiate resource migration, ROS generates a stack based on the content on the new node. This way, ROS replicates a collection of resources that have the same architecture as the resources on the source node. After you migrate the resources, you can delete the resources on the source node. ROS generates a stack of the resource management type before you can delete the resources.

You can view the stack on the Stacks tab of the scenario management page. For more information, see Terms and How a scenario works.

Step 1: Create a resource migration scenario

  1. Log on to the ROS console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, click Scenarios.

  3. In the top navigation bar, select a region where you want to create the scenario from the region drop-down list.

  4. On the Scenarios page, click Create Scenario.

  5. In the Create Scenario dialog box, specify Description and select Resource Migration as Select Scenario Type.

  6. Configure the parameters in the Resource Range section.

    • Select resources that are associated with specified tags.

      1. Select Source Tag as Method.

      2. In the Source Tag section, configure Tag Key and Tag Value based on your business requirements.

        Note

Specify tags that are added to existing resources. You can specify up to 10 tags.

      3. (Optional) Select resource types from the Resource Type drop-down list.

You can select up to 20 resource types.

    • Select resources that belong to a specified resource group.

      1. Select Source Resource Group as Method.

      2. Select a resource group from the Source Resource Group drop-down list.

      3. (Optional) Select resource types from the Resource Type drop-down list.

You can select up to 20 resource types.

    • Select specified resources.

      1. Select Source Resource as Method.

      2. In the Source Resource section, select resource types from the Resource Type drop-down list and resource IDs from the Resource ID drop-down list.

You can select up to 20 resource types.

  7. In the Configure Scenario section, configure parameters for resources that you want to migrate.

    Parameter

    Description

    Destination Region.

The destination region of the resources. By default, the region of the source resources is used.

    Destination Zone

The destination zone of the resources. By default, if you migrate resources within the same region, the zone of the source resources is used. If you migrate resources across regions, the system automatically selects a zone.

    Destination VPC

The destination virtual private cloud (VPC) of the resources. By default, if you migrate resources within the same region, the VPC of the source resources is used. If you migrate resources across regions, the system automatically creates a VPC.

    Note

Make sure that the VPC CIDR blocks of the migrated resources contain the VPC CIDR blocks of the source resources.

    Destination vSwitch

The destination vSwitch of the resources. By default, if you migrate resources within the same region, the vSwitch of the source resources is used. If you migrate resources across regions, the system automatically creates a vSwitch.

    Note

Make sure that the vSwitch CIDR blocks of the migrated resources contain the vSwitch CIDR blocks of the source resources.

    Replicate ECS Instance Data

This parameter takes effect only if the source resources contain an Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance. If you select Replicate ECS Instance Data, ROS replicates the data on the ECS instance. To ensure data consistency, you must stop the source ECS instance before ROS replicates the instance data.

    Tags

You can add tags to or remove tags from resources.

    Note

You can add up to 20 tags to each resource.

  8. Click Create.

After the scenario is created, Created appears in the Status column on the Scenarios page.

Step 2: Migrate resources

  1. On the Scenarios page, click the ID of the scenario.

  2. In the upper-right corner of the scenario management page, click Migrate Resources.

  3. Click Migrate.

  4. After the resources are migrated, click Disable.

Step 3: View migrated resources

  1. On the scenario management page, click the Stacks tab. Then, click the ID of the stack to which the migrated resources belong.

  2. On the stack management page, click the Resources tab to view the details of the migrated resources.

Step 4: (Optional) Delete source resources

  1. In the upper-right corner of the scenario management page, click Delete Source Resource.

  2. Click Delete.

    Note

ROS generates a stack of the resource management type before you can delete the resources.

  3. After the resources are deleted, click Disable.
