As the number of PolarDB for MySQL users increases, more and more enterprises need higher database proxy capabilities such as fast, automatic, and elastic scale-out and exclusive use of physical resources. To better meet the requirements of enterprises, Alibaba Cloud will release a new database proxy feature Database Proxy Enterprise Edition around January 7, 2022.
Release date
January 7, 2022
Billing
At present, you can use Database Proxy Enterprise Edition free of charge. In the future, when to charge the fees is to be determined.
Edition switchover policy
The following table describes the switchover policies for PolarProxy Enterprise Edition.
Edition | Purchase type | Policy |
---|---|---|
| Single Node Edition and Archive Database Standalone Edition do not support the Database Proxy Enterprise Edition feature regardless of existing or newly purchased instances. | |
| Newly purchased cluster | Newly purchased clusters only support Database Proxy Enterprise Edition. |
Existing pay-as-you-go cluster | Existing pay-as-you-go clusters are automatically switched to Database Proxy Enterprise Edition. | |

Database Proxy Enterprise Editions
- Standard Enterprise Edition is used by clusters of the General-purpose General-purpose type of PolarDB for MySQL Cluster Edition, which shares CPU resources with smart elastic scaling within seconds provided based on business loads.
- Dedicated Enterprise Edition is used by clusters of the Dedicated Dedicated type of PolarDB for MySQL Cluster Edition, which exclusively uses allocated CPU resources and provides better stability.
The following table describes the differences between the previous Database Proxy version and the current Database Proxy Enterprise Edition.

Performance | In Database Proxy Enterprise Edition, the maximum IOPS of cluster storage is 50% higher than that of the previous edition. For more information about the maximum IOPS of different cluster specifications, see Specifications of compute nodes. The performance enhancement covers all clusters that you purchased from January 7, 2022. All existing clusters are expected to receive the performance enhancement from February 2022. | ||
Read-only node configuration | The configurations must be consistent between the read-only nodes and the primary nodes. | The configurations are not necessarily consistent between the read-only nodes and the primary nodes. You can downgrade configurations based on business loads to save costs. This feature is expected to be available at the end of February 2022. | |
