You are charged for the storage space of backup files as of 10:00 on June 10, 2020 (UTC+8). Some backup methods offer discounts. The backup and restoration feature is still free of charge.

Release time

  • You are charged for the storage space of backup files as of 10:00 on June 10, 2020 (UTC+8).

Impacts

All PolarDB clusters.

Features

You can store backups for long-term use in PolarDB. You can also set the backup feature to retain backups of a cluster after you delete the cluster. This helps avoid data loss caused by user errors.

You can enable automatic backup of cluster and log data, or manually back up cluster data.

Backup types

Backup type Description
Level-1 backup
  • Level-1 backups are stored on a distributed storage cluster. They are fast to create and restore. However, the storage costs are high.
  • The retention period of level-1 backups is from 7 to 14 days.
Level-2 backup
  • Level-2 backups are compressed and stored in local storage. The storage costs of level-2 backups is lower than level-1 backups. However, it is time-consuming to restore level-2 backups.
  • Level-2 backups must be retained for at least 30 days.
  • By default, this feature is disabled. After you enable level-2 backup, expired level-1 backups are automatically archived to level-2 backups.
Log backup
  • Log data is saved in the Redo log of a database for point-in-time recovery (PITR).
  • Log backups must be retained for at least 7 days.

Billing

Backup type Free quota Billing
Level-1 backup Database storage usage × 50%

You can view the database storage usage of a cluster on the Overview page of the cluster in the PolarDB console.

Storage fee per hour = (Total physical storage of level-1 backups - Free quota) × Unit price per hour
  • You are not charged if the physical storage of the level-1 backups does not exceed the free quota.
  • For more information about the unit price per hour, see Grant an end user the permissions to launch the product.
  • The following figure shows the total physical storage of level-1 backups. The value is marked by the ① icon instead of the ② icon. Total size of level-1 backups (snapshots)

For example, if the total physical storage of level-1 backups is 700 GB and the database storage usage is 1,000 GB, the storage fee per hour is USD 0.0928.

The fee is calculated based on the following formula: [700 GB - (1,000 GB × 50%)] × USD 0.000464/GB = USD 0.0928.

Level-2 backup No Storage fee per hour = Total physical storage of level-2 backups × Unit price per hour

For example, if the total physical storage of level-2 backups is 1,000 GB, the storage fee per hour is USD 0.0325.

The fee is calculated based on the following formula: 1,000 GB × USD 0.0000325/GB = USD 0.0325.

Log backup 100 GB Storage fee per hour = (Total physical storage of log backups - 100 GB) × Unit price per hour

For example, if the total size of log backups is 1,000 GB, the storage fee per hour is USD 0.02925.

The fee is calculated based on the following formula: (1,000 GB - 100 GB) × USD 0.0000325 = USD 0.02925.
