Elastic Compute Service:Create a replication pair

Last Updated:Oct 23, 2023

The async replication feature asynchronously replicates data between disks across regions or across zones within the same region for disaster recovery purposes. This topic describes how to create a replication pair. Before you can use the async replication feature to implement disaster recovery for disks across regions or across zones, you must create replication pairs.

Prerequisites

The source disk (primary disk) from which to replicate data and the destination disk (secondary disk) to which to replicate data are created.

  • The primary disk is an unencrypted enhanced SSD (ESSD) that is used as a data disk. The disk is not being extended or changed.

  • The primary and secondary disks belong to the same category and have the same performance level and capacity.

For more information, see Limits.

Warning

The async replication feature replicates data from primary disks to secondary disks, and the replicated data overwrites the original data on the secondary disks. This action is irreversible. We recommend that you use an empty disk as the secondary disk.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Elastic Block Storage (EBS) console.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Enterprise-level Features > Async Replication.

  3. In the upper-left corner of the top navigation bar, select a region. 地域

  4. Click the Primary Site or Secondary Site tab and then click Create Replication Pair.

  5. On the page that appears, configure the following parameters:

    • Source Region and Zone: Select the region and zone where the primary disk resides.

    • Source Disk: Select the ID of the primary disk.

    • Service-linked Role: By default, a service-linked role is created for EBS.

      Note

The first time you log on to the EBS console, you must create a service-linked role for EBS as instructed. For information about the service-linked role, see Service-linked role for EBS.

    • Destination Region and Zone: Select the region and zone where the secondary disk resides.

    • Destination Disk: Select the ID of the secondary disk. The secondary disk must have the same specifications and capacity as the primary disk.

    • Risk Disclosure & Compliance Commitments: Read the note and then select I understand the relevant risks and agree to the following compliance commitments.

    • Replication Relationship Name: Enter a name for the replication pair.

    • Description: Enter a description for the replication pair.

    • Bandwidth: This parameter is available and required only when you create a subscription replication pair. Select a bandwidth value based on your business requirements. The greater the bandwidth value, the higher the rate at which data is asynchronously replicated.

    • Subscription Duration: This parameter is available and required when you create a subscription replication pair. Select a subscription period for the replication pair.

  6. Confirm the configurations and price of the replication pair. Then, click Buy Now.

After you complete the payment, you can go back to the Async Replication page in the EBS console to view the replication pair that you created.

You can modify the name and description of the created replication pair based on your business requirements.

What to do next

To implement disaster recovery, you must enable the async replication feature for the created replication pair. For more information, see Enable async replication for replication pairs.
