Simple Application Server:Quickly create a Windows server and set up IIS

Last Updated:Aug 14, 2025

This topic describes how to quickly create a Windows simple application server instance and build a web application. This topic uses the Windows Server 2022 Datacenter Edition image as an example.

Prerequisites

Step 1: Create a Simple Application Server instance

  1. Go to the Simple Application Server console. In the upper-left corner, click Create Server.

  2. On the Simple Application Server page, configure the server.

For more information about the parameters, see Create a Simple Application Server instance.

    Configuration Item

    Example

    Description

    Instance

    • Instance Family: General Purpose

    • Plan: Select a plan with a system disk no less than 40 GiB.

    Important

Windows images require a system disk larger than 40 GiB. Select a plan that meets this requirement.

Select an instance family and a plan. Click image to view more plans. For more information, see Instance families.image

    Region

    Singapore

Select a region close to your target users to reduce network latency. Regions outside the Chinese mainland, such as China (Hong Kong) and Singapore, provide international bandwidth. Accessing these regions from the Chinese mainland may result in high network latency. For more information, see Regions and network connectivity.

  3. After you complete the configuration, click Buy Now and follow the prompts to complete the payment. After the payment is complete, return to the Simple Application Server console. The server is created when its status changes from Preparing to Running.

Step 2: Connect to the Simple Application Server instance remotely

Use Workbench to log on to the Windows server. For more information about remote connection methods, see Connect to a Windows server.

  1. Set the server password.

On the server card, click Reset Password. In the dialog box, select Change Online, set a new password, then click OK.

    Important
    • A newly created server does not have an initial password. Set a password in the console before connecting to the server.

    • A new Windows server takes about one minute to initialize.

  2. Connect to the server.

On the server card, click Remote Connection. In the Remote Connection dialog box, click Log on Now, enter the password, then click OK.

  3. After you log on, the Windows desktop appears.

Step 3: Set up the environment

The following steps describe how to deploy Internet Information Services (IIS).

  1. From the Start menu, search for and open PowerShell.

  2. Install IIS.

    1. Install IIS and its management tools.

      Install-WindowsFeature -name Web-Server -IncludeAllSubFeature -IncludeManagementTools
    2. If the installation is successful, you can see this.

  3. Access the IIS service. In local browser, navigate to http://<public_IP_address_of_your_Simple_Application_Server_instance>.

You can view the public IP address of the server on its card in the console.

If you see this, IIS is deployed.image
