Mail types supported by DirectMail

  • Trigger mail: Mails triggered by events, such as registration or transaction notifications, password retrieval, system alarms or other system notification mails.

  • Batch mail: Subscription mails sent to members, such as product promotions, user care mails or periodical news.

Alibaba Cloud only allows sending commercial mails to the email addresses which are offered by the members in member registration, and the e-mail content is subscribed to by the recipient explicitly. Alibaba Cloud will not allow unauthorized sending of emails.

Please carefully read the terms of DirectMail service in Alibaba Cloud International Website Product Terms of Service.

Credit rating rules

DirectMail establishes a dynamic credit rating system based on the mail delivery quality (arrival rate, invalid address rate and spam mail rate).

After each Alibaba Cloud account is activated and used for logon, the initial credit is Grade 2, corresponding to a quota of 2,000 mails/day. The highest credit grade is 10, corresponding to a quota of 500,000 mails/day. The credit grades are adjusted up or down on a weekly basis. You can view the daily quota and monthly quota of your account on the overview page of the DirectMail console.

Credit grades

The credit grade - daily/monthly quota relationship is shown below. The credit grades are adjusted up or down on a weekly basis. If the quota below cannot meet your daily mail needs, you can open a ticket requesting an adjustment.

Adjustment rules

DirectMail evaluates the mail delivery quality (arrival rate, invalid address rate and spam mail rate) of Alibaba Cloud users every week, increases the credit grade of users with a high delivery quality, and decreases the credit grade of users with a poor delivery quality. The rules are as follows:

  • Your credit grade and daily quota will be increased if your invalid address rate is lower than 5%, the spam mail rate (including the failed spam mails returned from the recipient and reported spam mails) is lower than 2%, and the arrival rate is higher than 95%.

  • Your credit rating evaluation will be adversely impacted and your credit grade and daily quota be decreased if your invalid address rate is higher than 10%, the spam mail rate is higher than 8%, or the arrival rate is lower than 75%.

  • If a Credit Grade 1 account is further downgraded, the account will be banned from sending outgoing mails.

DirectMail has the right to adjust the above rules and values according to the actual situations of the system.

Account ban rules

Ban from sending outgoing mails

  • The arrival quality on a day is too low, and the outgoing mail sending rule is triggered: The invalid address rate is higher than 20%, the spam mail rate is higher than 15%, or the arrival rate is lower than 50%;
  • If a Credit Grade 1 account is further downgraded, the account will be banned from sending outgoing mails.
  • One chance is provided for you to unban an account banned from sending outgoing mails. You need to open a ticket for unbanning the account.
  • You can log on to the DirectMail console with the account banned from sending outgoing mails, but you cannot use DirectMail to send mails.
  • You can view the user status on the overview page.

Freeze the account

  • The DirectMail will freeze the account if situations including but not limited to the following are detected: The account sends phishing, fraud, or virus-infected mails, mails that generate a baneful influence, mails that are suspected of being involved in overregistration, or mails that are complained by third parties because of sending a large number of spam mails, which results in tarnished reputation to DirectMail or other adverse impacts.
  • The freeze punishment rule takes effect immediately and the frozen account will never be unbanned.
  • You cannot log on to the DirectMail console with a frozen account, nor can you use the DirectMail to send mails.

DirectMail has the right to adjust the above rules and values according to the actual situations of the system.

Max credit level

Limit the daily quota by setting the max credit grade.

  • The highest credit grade default is 10. You cannot set a highest credit grade lower than your current highest grade.
  • When the threshold is reached, the system will not increase your credit grade unless you set a higher credit grade toplimit.
