When you register a domain name with Alibaba Cloud, the system assigns a free authoritative DNS server address by default. You can change this address in the Domain Names console.
Scenarios
After you purchase a domain name, Alibaba Cloud automatically assigns a default authoritative DNS address.
If you migrate domain name resolution from another provider to Alibaba Cloud DNS, you must change the DNS servers to the ones assigned by Alibaba Cloud DNS.
The edition of your Alibaba Cloud DNS instance changes. For example, you upgrade from the Free Edition to a paid edition or switch from a paid edition to the Free Edition. Alibaba Cloud DNS attempts to automatically modify the DNS server addresses for your domain name. If the modification fails, you must manually change the DNS servers to the ones assigned by Alibaba Cloud DNS.
If you change the DNS servers from a third-party provider directly to Alibaba Cloud DNS servers, the DNS records on the original platform will become invalid. This may cause your websites or services to become unavailable. Proceed with caution after you have verified the impact. To migrate DNS records from your original provider to Alibaba Cloud DNS without service interruptions, see Smoothly migrate domain name resolution to Alibaba Cloud DNS.
Procedure
View the DNS servers assigned by Alibaba Cloud DNS.
On the Alibaba Cloud DNS - Authoritative DNS page, view the status in the DNS Server IP Address column for the target domain name and copy the addresses. If the DNS servers that you configured in the Domain Names console are different from the ones assigned by Alibaba Cloud DNS, the status is displayed as Assigned NS not used.

Modify the DNS server addresses in the Domain Names console.
Go to the Domain Names console. In the Domain Names list, find the target domain name and click Manage in the Actions column.

In the navigation pane on the left, click DNS Server Change, and then click the Change DNS Server button.

Enter the server names for System-assigned NS, such as
vip1.alidns.comandvip2.alidns.com. Then, click OK.
Time to take effect
The time it takes for DNS server changes to take effect depends on the Time to Live (TTL) of the DNS server records cached by local DNS servers. The default TTL is 48 hours.
