How to renew and upgrade a subscription WAF instance - Web Application Firewall

To prevent your protection service from stopping automatically when your Web Application Firewall (WAF) instance expires, you must manually renew the instance or enable auto-renewal before it expires. If the specifications of your current instance no longer meet your requirements, you can upgrade the instance. Renewals and upgrades apply only to subscription WAF instances. This topic describes how to renew a subscription WAF instance.

Renewal

Expiration policy

Timing	What happens
7 days before expiration	Alibaba Cloud sends a text message or email reminder. Renew before the instance expires to avoid disruption.
Within 15 days after expiration	Renew manually and the instance resumes normal operation immediately.
16th day after expiration	The instance is automatically released.

Renew an instance

Log on to the Web Application Firewall (WAF) console. In the top menu bar, select the resource group and region for your WAF instance: Chinese Mainland or Outside Chinese Mainland.

- Manual renewal
  1. In the upper-right corner of the Overview page, click Renew.
  2. In the Renew panel, accept the Agreement of Service, click Buy Now, and then complete the payment.
    After you complete the payment, you can view the new expiration date of your WAF instance in the upper-right corner of the Overview page.
- Auto-renewal
  1. In the upper-right corner of the Overview page, click Auto-renewal.
  2. On the Manual Renewal tab of the Renewal Management page, find the Web Application Firewall (WAF) instance and click Enable Auto Renewal in the Actions column.
  3. In the Enable Auto Renewal dialog box, select an auto-renewal period and click Enable Auto Renewal.
    After you enable auto-renewal, you can view or modify the instance's renewal settings on the Auto-renewal tab. Before the instance expires, Alibaba Cloud sends you a reminder, automatically deducts the renewal fee, and generates a renewal order. You do not need to renew the instance manually.
    Note
    Alibaba Cloud deducts the renewal fee 9 days before the instance expires. Ensure your payment method has sufficient funds. If you receive an auto-renewal failure notification, you must manually renew the instance before it expires and then enable auto-renewal again.
    Coupons can be applied to auto-renewals. Alibaba Cloud automatically applies any eligible coupons to your order. No manual action is required.
    Auto-renewal takes effect the day after you enable it.
