Edge Security Acceleration:Create a scheduled event

Last Updated:Mar 20, 2025

If you want to adjust the behavior of a waiting room for a specific period of time, such as during flash sales, you can create a scheduled event. This allows you to specify a new queuing method or threshold of total active users.

Before you begin

An Enterprise plan has been purchased for your website and you have applied for the feature. You can upgrade to Enterprise and apply for the feature.

Create a scheduled event

The procedure for creating a scheduled event is similar to that for creating a waiting room. The URL matching rule configured for the waiting room is automatically inherited, but you need to specify a name and duration for the event.

  1. In the ESA console, choose Websites and click the website name you want to manage.

  2. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Traffic > Waiting Room.

  3. Click the drop-down arrow next to the waiting room name. In the Waiting Room Events section, click Create Scheduled Event.

  4. Configure the basic information for the event.

    • Event Name: Enter a name for the event.

    • Description: Enter a description of the event.

    • Duration: Specify the start time and end time of the event.

    • Note
      • During the specified duration, the settings for the scheduled event override the original settings for the waiting room.

      • You cannot specify overlapping time windows for different scheduled events.

    • Pre-queuing: If you enable pre-queuing, users who access the origin between the pre-queue time and the event start time are added to a queue. Then, when the event starts, the users are let in to the waiting room based on the configured queuing method.

      • Pre-queue Time: The pre-queue time must be at least 5 minutes earlier than the event start time. Only new visitors are pre-queued. If you want to pre-queue existing visitors, set Pre-queue Time longer than Session Duration and disable session renewal.

      • Random Queuing:

        • Disabled (default): When the event starts, users are queued in the waiting room in order of arrival.

        • Enabled: When the event starts, pre-queued users are randomly assigned a place in the queue.

  5. Configure other parameters as prompted. For more information, see Create a waiting room.
