E-MapReduce:Cluster status

Last Updated:Jul 06, 2023

You can view the status of a cluster on the EMR on ECS page. This topic describes the status of EMR on ECS clusters.

Status

Description

Starting

The cluster is being created. The following phases are involved:

  • Creation of Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instances.

  • Deployment of a cluster environment, which takes a short period of time. The cluster enters the Running state after the deployment is complete.

Startup Failed

An error occurs during environment deployment when you create a subscription cluster. Manual troubleshooting is required. You can use one of the following methods to fix the error:

  • View the error details in the Operation History panel of the cluster, fix the error based on the error information, and then click Retry in the Actions column to restart the creation process.

  • Manually cancel the subscription to all ECS instances in the cluster that fails to be started in the ECS console. Then, release the cluster in the EMR console.

Unexpectedly Terminated

If an unrecoverable error occurs during the creation of a cluster, the cluster enters this state. You can release the cluster in the EMR console.

You can also click the question mark (?) in the Status column to view the cause of the exception.

Running

The cluster is running.

Terminating

If you click Release in the Actions column of a cluster to release a cluster, the cluster enters this state. This state indicates that the cluster is being released. The cluster can be released after a short period of time.

Terminate Failed

An exception occurs during the release of a cluster.

You can click the question mark (?) in the Status column to view the cause of the exception. If the cluster that you want to release enters this state, click Release in the Actions column of the cluster again to restart the release process.
