After the cross-region backup feature is enabled for an ApsaraDB RDS instance, Database Backup (DBS) transfers and backs up the data of the ApsaraDB RDS instance across regions by using leased lines. A backup schedule used to dump the data of the ApsaraDB RDS instance is generated. You can view the information about the source database and the progress of backup tasks on the details page of the backup schedule.

For more information about the features and billing rules of cross-region ApsaraDB RDS backup, see Enable cross-region backups for an ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance.

FAQ

  • Q: How do I stop a backup schedule used to dump data?

A: After the cross-region backup feature is disabled for an ApsaraDB RDS instance, DBS automatically stops the corresponding backup schedule.

  • Q: After I disable the cross-region backup feature for my ApsaraDB RDS instance, why am I still charged for the storage of cross-region backup files?

A: After you disable the cross-region backup feature for your ApsaraDB RDS instances, no new backup files are generated and you are no longer charged for the traffic that is consumed for the transmission of cross-region backup files. However, you are still charged for the storage of the existing cross-region backup files within the cross-region backup retention period that you specify. The existing cross-region backup files are retained for at least seven days. You can set the cross-region backup retention period to seven days. For more information, see the "Modify the cross-region backup settings of an RDS instance" section in the "Enable cross-region backups for an ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance" topic. After the cross-region backup retention period that you specify elapses, ApsaraDB RDS deletes all the existing cross-region backup files and you are no longer charged for the storage of the cross-region backup files.

  • Q: Can I change the billing method of my backup schedule used to dump data from pay-as-you-go billing to subscription?

A: No. Backup schedules used to dump data do not support the subscription billing method.

  • Q: Why can I still view the backup schedules used to dump data in the DBS console after I disable the cross-region backup feature?

A: After you disable the cross-region backup feature, the backup schedules used to dump data are still retained in the DBS console. However, you are not charged for these backup schedules.
