AnalyticDB for MySQL:Manage O&M events

Last Updated:Jun 26, 2023

AnalyticDB for MySQL allows you to manage O&M events such as minor version updates. You can configure event notifications, view the task ID, switchover time, and event status of O&M events, and change the switchover time of pending events. This topic describes how to manage O&M events.

Prerequisites

  • An AnalyticDB for MySQL Data Warehouse Edition (V3.0) cluster is created.

  • A pending O&M event exists.

    Note

To check whether pending O&M events exist, move the pointer over the 通知 icon in the upper-right corner of the AnalyticDB for MySQL console.

Usage notes

  • During the switchover of a minor version update event, your cluster may encounter transient connections and remain in the read-only state for up to 30 seconds before all data is synchronized. We recommend that you perform a switchover during off-peak hours. Make sure that your application is configured to automatically reconnect to your cluster.

  • In most cases, you must configure notifications to be sent at least three days before the execution of system maintenance events, and three or fewer days before the execution of vulnerability fix events.

  • If you do not configure an event-triggered alert rule or enable message notification, you cannot receive notifications.

Description

Minor version update

You can configure a scheduled switchover time for an event, and a global schedule for an AnalyticDB for MySQL cluster. The scheduled switchover time takes precedence over the global schedule. If you configure a scheduled switchover time for an event, the event performs the switchover at the scheduled switchover time regardless of whether a global schedule is configured. If you do not configure a scheduled switchover time or a global schedule for an event, the event performs a switchover within the maintenance time of your cluster.

Transient connections

After a scheduled switchover starts, the following impacts take effect on your cluster:

  • Your cluster may encounter transient connections and remain in the read-only state for up to 30 seconds before all data is synchronized. We recommend that you perform a switchover during off-peak hours. Make sure that your application is configured to automatically reconnect to your cluster.

  • You cannot manage your cluster by using Data Management (DMS) or Data Transmission Service (DTS). This impact is temporary.

Configure O&M event notifications

You can use one of the following methods to configure O&M event notifications:

  • Log on to the CloudMonitor console and configure O&M event-triggered alert rules. For more information, see Configure an event-triggered alert rule.

  • Log on to the Message Center. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Message Settings > Common Settings. On the Common Settings page, select notification methods for ApsaraDB Fault or Maintenance Notifications and add message recipients. We recommend that you specify database O&M personnel as message recipients.

View pending events

  1. Log on to the AnalyticDB for MySQL console. In the upper-left corner of the console, select a region. In the left-side navigation pane, click Pending Events.

  2. On the Pending Events page, view the information about pending events. For information about the causes and impacts of events on business, see the "Event description" section of this topic.

Configure a scheduled switchover time

You can configure a scheduled switchover time only after a pending event is generated. The scheduled switchover time takes effect only for the events that you select. After you configure a scheduled switchover time for an event, the event automatically performs a switchover at the scheduled switchover time. During an event switchover, your cluster may encounter transient connections. Make sure that you set the scheduled switchover time to off-peak hours.

  1. On the Scheduled Events tab of the Pending Events page, select one or more events.

  2. In the lower part of the Scheduled Event tab, click Schedule Event.

  3. In the Schedule Event panel, configure a scheduled switchover time.

If you want to immediately perform a switchover, select Earliest Execution Time. After you confirm the settings, the system immediately prepares for the switchover. If the preparation is complete at the specified earliest execution time, the system immediately performs the switchover.

    Note

The time that is specified by the Scheduled Disconnection Time parameter cannot be later than the time that is specified by the Set Before parameter.

Configure a global schedule

A global schedule takes effect for all AnalyticDB for MySQL Data Warehouse Edition (V3.0) clusters and has no effect on the switchover time of other database services. After you configure a global schedule, the system performs switchovers for all pending events that are not executed and not configured with a scheduled switchover time within the global schedule.

For example, if you configure the global schedule to start at 00:00:00 on Tuesday, all clusters that are included in the schedule perform minor version updates at 00:00:00 on Tuesday.

  1. On the Pending Events page, click Set Global Schedule in the upper-right corner.

  2. In the Set Global Schedule panel, configure a global schedule by Week or Month based on your business requirements.

    Note

You can view the global schedule that you configured in the upper part of the Scheduled Event tab. If you did not configure a global schedule, no schedule is displayed.

  3. Click Save.

Cancel scheduled events

You can cancel only the scheduled events of minor version updates. Select a minor version update event and click Cancel Event.

View historical events

  1. Log on to the AnalyticDB for MySQL console. In the upper-left corner of the console, select a region. In the left-side navigation pane, click Historical Events.

  2. On the Historical Events page, view the information about historical events, such as the Task ID, Switching Time, and Status parameters.
