WUYING Terminal:Web client

Last Updated:Nov 27, 2023

WUYING Workspace (Pro Edition) allows you to log on to the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client (hereinafter referred to as "client") for web with a few clicks, without downloading it. If you do not install a Windows client or macOS client on your local computer and you want to quickly access a cloud computer, you can log on to a web client and connect to the cloud computer. This topic describes how to log on to and use a web client.

Log on to a web client

Concise description

WUYING software clients support multiple logon methods and various advanced features, such as the single sign-on (SSO) and multi-factor authentication (MFA) features. In this section, the password-based logon method is used, and advanced features are not involved. You can refer to the operations in this section in most business scenarios. If the simple version cannot meet your business requirements, you can refer to the detailed version.

Prerequisites

  • Logon credentials are obtained. After your administrator allocates cloud resources to your account, you must obtain the logon credentials including the office network ID (formerly known as workspace ID), username, and password from the email address that is specified by your administrator.

  • A web client has the following versions: Legacy Version and New Version. You can use features, such as short message service (SMS) logon and message view, only on a web client of New Version. Compared with Legacy Version, New Version provides more user-friendly UIs. On the client logon page, you can click New Version or Legacy Version to switch between versions based on your business requirements. Links for logon entries:

Procedure

  1. Open the web client, select Pro Edition on the top of the logon page, read the privacy policy and select I have read and agree to Privacy Policy in the lower part of the logon page, enter an office network ID that is included in logon credentials sent to your email address, and then click the 进入..png icon.3.png

  2. In the Username and Password fields, enter your username and password, and click the 进入..png icon.

    Note

The first time you log on to a web client, enter the initial password that is included in the logon credentials. You must follow the on-screen instructions to specify a new password. The next time you log on to the client, use the new password. The initial password is valid for only three days. If the initial password expires, click Forgot password to obtain another initial password.

After you log on to the client, you can view the cloud resources, such as cloud computers, that your administrator has assigned to you.

  3. On the cloud resources page of the client, click the connection icon on the cloud computer card to connect to and use the cloud computer.

Detailed description

The detailed version introduces concepts, other logon methods, and advanced features. If you want to log on to a client by using a password and you do not require any advanced features, you can refer to the operations that are described in the simple version.

Background

Users of WUYING services can be divided into the following categories:

  • End users: users who use WUYING cloud services. Example: Jack, a designer from a design company.

  • Administrators: O&M personnel. Administrators are responsible for cloud resource purchase and renewal, resource creation and assignment, policy creation and binding, O&M and monitoring, and end user management. Example: Steven, the IT administrator of the company in which the designer Jack works.

Limits

When you use a browser to log on to a web client and connect to a cloud computer, take note of the following limits:

  • We recommend that you log on to the web client by using one of the following browsers: Google Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari.

  • You can use a convenience user or an Active Directory (AD) user to log on to the web client and connect to the cloud computer.

  • You can connect to the cloud computer from the web client only over the Internet.

  • The multi-factor authentication (MFA) and single sign-on (SSO) features are not supported on a web client.

  • The local disk mapping feature is not supported on the web client.

Regardless of whether a policy in which the Local Disk Mapping feature is enabled is associated with the cloud computer, you cannot read data from or write data to on-premises disks on the cloud computer.

Note

For better user experience when you use a cloud computer, we recommend that you use a Windows client or macOS client. For more information, see Obtain and install a client.

Prerequisites

  • Your administrator has created a user account for you and assigned you WUYING cloud resources such as cloud computers. If you are an administrator, perform the following operations to purchase and assign cloud resources:

  • Logon credentials are obtained. After your administrator purchases and allocates cloud resources to your account, you will receive client logon credentials including the office network ID (formerly known as workspace ID), username, and password. The account type and account activation method of end users determine the method that is used to obtain client logon credentials.

    Note

For information about account types and their difference, see Account systems.

    • Convenience accounts

      • Administrator-activated convenience accounts: Administrators configure client logon credentials and password reset notifications in the WUYING Workspace console and deliver the client logon credentials to end users offline. WUYING AppStreaming supports only convenience accounts that are activated by administrators.

      • User-activated convenience accounts: End users obtain client logon credentials and password reset notifications from emails.

    • Enterprise Active Directory (AD) accounts

      • Administrators deliver client logon credentials to end users offline.

Procedure

  1. Open the web client, select Pro Edition on the top of the logon page. Read the privacy policy and select I have read and agree to Privacy Policy in the lower part of the logon page.

  2. Select a logon method.

    Password-based logon

    1. When you enter the client logon page, the default logon method is logon by using a password. If it is not the case, click Password in the lower part of the page.

    2. Enter the office network ID that is included in the logon credentials and click the 进入..png icon.

    3. Perform one of the following operations based on whether the SSO feature is enabled for the office network:

      What is SSO?

SSO is a secure communication technology that helps users quickly access multiple application systems. SSO is also known as identity federated logon. It allows end users to access all trusted systems after they log on to one of the systems.

      • If the SSO feature is not enabled, enter the username that is included in the logon credentials and your custom password. Then, click the 进入..png icon. If you do not want to repeatedly log on to a client, you can select Auto Sign-in. This feature keeps you logged on for three days.

        Note
        • The first time you log on to a client, enter the initial password that is sent to your email address. You must follow the on-screen instructions to configure a custom password. The next time you log on to the client, use the custom password.

        • The initial password is valid for only three days. If the initial password expires or if you forget the password, click Forgot password to reset your password as prompted.

        Important

You must enter a valid password. If you enter an invalid password for 10 consecutive times, the account is automatically locked for 20 minutes. During this period, you cannot enter a password.

      • If the SSO feature is enabled for the office network, enter the SSO username and password as prompted and click the 进入..png icon.

    SMS-based logon

    Note

If your administrator enabled the SMS verification feature for your cloud computer, use the mobile number that is associated with your account to receive a verification code. Then, use the verification code to log on to the client. For information about how to enable the SMS verification feature as an administrator, see Create a convenience user.

Click SMS in the lower part of the client logon page. In the Mobile Number field, enter the associated mobile number and click Send Code. Then, enter the verification code and click the 进入..png icon. If you do not want to repeatedly log on to a client, you can select Auto Sign-in. This feature keeps you logged on for three days.

  3. (Conditional) If your administrator enabled the MFA feature for your cloud computer, you must enter the security code that is generated by the associated virtual MFA device.

    What is MFA?

MFA provides a simple and secure way that adds an extra layer of protection on top of the default username and password authentication. When MFA is enabled, the two-factor authentication is required to access the client. The two-layer verification is determined by two factors. The first factor is the username and password. The second factor is a verification code that an MFA device dynamically generates. These two factors strengthen your account security.

An MFA device uses the Time-based One-time Password (TOTP) algorithm to generate a 6-digit dynamic verification code. MFA devices can be hardware or software. WUYING Workspace supports software-based virtual MFA devices. You can install the software that supports virtual MFA on mobile devices. For example, you can install the Alibaba Cloud app on a mobile phone. In this case, the mobile phone is used as a virtual MFA device.

To implement MFA, perform the following steps:

    1. Enable MFA for an office network in the WUYING Workspace console.

    2. Bind an MFA device the first time you log on to the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client as an end user.

    3. Enter the MFA verification code the next time you log on to the Alibaba Cloud Workspace client as an end user.

For more information about MFA, see Configure MFA.

    Note

To use the MFA feature, you must first bind a virtual MFA device to your cloud computer as prompted. WUYING Workspace supports various virtual MFA applications that run based on the time-based one-time cipher algorithm (TOTP), such as Alibaba Cloud App and Google Authenticator App.

  4. (Conditional) If your administrator enabled the client logon verification feature, obtain the verification code from your associated email address. Then, enter the verification code to pass the verification when you log on to the client from a new device.

    Note

The client logon verification feature is used only when you access your cloud computer over the Internet.

  5. After you log on to the client, WUYING cloud services are displayed as cards or icons. Click a card or an icon to access WUYING cloud services.

    Note
    • If your administrator assigns only one cloud computer to your account and the cloud computer is in the Running state, the cloud computer is automatically connected when you log on to the client. You can perform the following operations to disable the automatic connection feature: Log on to the web client, choose More > Settings. Alternatively, go to the card display page of cloud computers, click the setting icon and then click Settings. On the Sign-in tab, clear If only one cloud computer is assigned to this account, then the cloud computer will be connected automatically upon signing in.

    • If your cloud computer is in the Stopped state, start the cloud computer. You can connect to the cloud computer only after it enters the Running state.

    • For more information about how to use WUYING Workspace (Pro Edition), see Overview.

Troubleshooting

What do I do if I do not have the logon credentials?

You can obtain the logon credentials in the email that is sent to the email address specified by your administrator when your administrator created your account. If you are unsure of your email address, contact your administrator. If you are the administrator, follow the instructions that are described in the Prerequisites section to create an account for an end user, purchase cloud resources, and assign the cloud resources to the account.

What do I do if the initial password that is included in the logon credentials becomes invalid or if I forget the password?

On the password-based client logon page, click Forgot password and enter your username and enterprise email address as prompted. WUYING Workspace (Pro Edition) sends another initial password to the email address. You must use the initial password to log on to the client and configure a custom password.

Note
  • Only end users that use convenience accounts can reset passwords on clients. Enterprise AD accounts are managed by enterprise AD systems. If you use an enterprise AD account and you want to reset the password, contact your administrator. Take note that this rule does not apply upon the first logon or when the password expires.

  • If an error message such as invalid email address appears when you reset the password, contact your administrator.

What do I do if no cloud computer appears or a message indicating that cloud computers fail to be assigned appears after I log on to my client?

The administrator assigns cloud computers to end users. If you cannot find a cloud computer after you log on to your client as an end user, contact the administrator. For more information, see What do I do if no cloud computer is displayed on the client of an end user?

What do I do if the message "You cannot access the office network over the XX network" appears when I log on to the client?

If the message "You cannot access the office network over the XX network" appears when you log on to the client, the network access mode that you selected is not supported by the office network (formerly workspace). You can select another connection method, or contact your administrator to modify the connection method of the office network ID.

For more information, see FAQ about clients.
