Edge Security Acceleration:Manage scenario policies

Last Updated:Jun 17, 2026

Scenario policies automatically adjust DDoS protection for peak traffic events such as game launches or e-commerce promotions. Using the Major Events template, a policy dynamically adapts to traffic fluctuations within a preset period, reducing false positives for legitimate users and ensuring business continuity.

Before you begin

  • Scenario policies are available only for websites on an enterprise plan that use Tbps-level best-effort DDoS protection.

  • If you use a standard DDoS protection policy during a major event, legitimate traffic might be blocked. The Major Events template automatically adjusts the DDoS protection policy during the specified event period. The adjustment logic is as follows:

    • At the start of the event: The system records the current settings for HTTP DDoS Attack Protection and Deep Learning and Protection, and then automatically disables both features.

    • At the end of the event: The system automatically restores the original protection settings for these two features.

  • You can create up to 10 scenario policies per account.

Create a scenario policy

  1. Log on to the ESA console. In the left-side navigation pane, choose Global Settings > Scenario Policies.

  2. On the Scenario Policies page, click Create Scenario Policy. Enter a Policy Name, select an Effective Period, and set the Associated Website.

    Parameter

    Description

    Policy Name

A custom name for the policy. The name can contain letters, digits, Chinese characters, underscores (_), and hyphens (-).

    Policy Template

Currently, only the Major Events template is supported. This template is designed for scenarios with sudden traffic surges, such as new game launches or e-commerce promotions.

    Effective Period

Select the time period during which the policy is active. The effective periods of scenario policies cannot overlap.

    Associated Website

Select the websites to which the policy applies. You can associate the policy only with a website on an enterprise plan.

  3. Click OK.

After a policy is created, it is enabled by default. The Status column in the policy list shows one of the following values:

    1. Pending Enabled: The effective period has not started.

    2. Enabled: The policy is active within its effective period.

    3. Expired: The effective period has ended.

    4. Disabled: The policy has been manually disabled and remains inactive even during its effective period.
