Impacts and recommendations

Impacts

From January 14, 2023, change tracking instances of the previous version will be unavailable. DTS users can no longer use the previous change tracking feature to track data changes.

Recommendations

  • We recommend that you upgrade change tracking instances from the previous version to the new version before January 14, 2023. For more information, see Upgrade a change tracking instance from the previous version to the new version.
Important You need to release your change tracking instance of the previous version after the upgrade. A released instance cannot be restored.
  • When you use a change tracking instance of the new version to consume tracked data, we recommend that you specify a consumption checkpoint earlier than the current consumption checkpoint of the change tracking instance of the previous version. Make sure that the change tracking instance of the new version can consume tracked data before you release the change tracking instance of the previous version.
Important When you use a change tracking instance of the new version to consume tracked data, if the specified consumption checkpoint overlaps with the consumption checkpoint of the change tracking instance of the previous version, the change tracking client receives duplicate data. If the specified consumption checkpoint is later than the consumption checkpoint of the change tracking instance of the previous version before it is released, data loss occurs.

FAQ

Q: How do I distinguish whether a change tracking task is of the new version or previous version?

A: After a change tracking task is run, if the ID or name of the task is followed by the Change Tracking (New) icon, the change tracking task is created by using the change tracking feature of the new version. Otherwise, the change tracking task is created by using the change tracking feature of the previous version.
