Last Updated:Jun 27, 2023

This topic describes the procedure to create a dashboard.

The following table describes the steps to create a dashboard.

Step

Operation

Description

Step 1

Create a namespace

The metrics in namespaces can be displayed on the dashboard. Before you can import metrics from self-managed data centers, Alibaba Cloud services, and cloud services of third-party providers, you must create namespaces.

Step 2

You can create a metric import task for a self-managed data center, an Alibaba Cloud service, or a cloud service provided by a third-party cloud service provider to import monitoring data to CloudMonitor. You can create a metric import task to import data to CloudMonitor, including metric data from Prometheus, logs from on-premises servers, or logs from Log Service. You can also use Alibaba Cloud CLI or call API operations to report custom monitoring data to the namespaces of CloudMonitor.

Note

After you create a metric import task, Hybrid Cloud Monitoring traces the historical data of metrics for several periods within 1 to 2 minutes. If no historical data is available, you must wait for one period before you can view the latest monitoring data.

Step 3

To create a dashboard, perform the following operations:

After the metrics are imported to CloudMonitor from self-managed data centers, Alibaba Cloud services, or cloud services of third-party providers, you can create a dashboard for the metrics. You can view the monitoring charts of specified metrics on the dashboard. You can create the following types of dashboards:

  • Business dashboard: You can use a default template to create a business dashboard by specifying cloud services, resources, and namespaces.

  • System preset dashboard: You can select a preset template of CloudMonitor to create a system preset dashboard.

  • Monitoring dashboard: You can create a monitoring dashboard for the metrics of self-managed data centers, Alibaba Cloud services, and cloud services of third-party providers.

Step 4

Create an alert rule

After you connect Alibaba Cloud services, data centers, third-party cloud services, Prometheus, on-premises logs, logs from Log Service, and custom monitoring data to CloudMonitor, you can create alert rules. If the metric value of a resource meets the alert conditions, CloudMonitor automatically sends alert notifications to you.
