The global market becomes increasingly complex. A large number of customers require technology that is developed in China. Self-developed databases in China must use self-developed chips, self-developed OSs, and self-developed Database Management Systems (DBMS). Chinese vendors encounter the following technical challenges during the process of development of DBMS: how to upgrade and transform database architecture based on self-developed chips, how to adapt to self-developed OSs, and how to migrate data from commercial databases to self-developed databases. Compatibility issues must be resolved if data is migrated across ecosystems. Self-developed databases in China have a long history of development. However, these databases are immature and occupy a small market share.
