ApsaraDB RDS:[Product changes/Feature changes] Change of the default time zone for a new ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance

Last Updated:Oct 13, 2023

Starting May 30, 2021, the default time zone for a new ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance changes from the system time zone of the server on which the RDS instance is deployed to the UTC time zone of the region to which the RDS instance belongs.

Description

Before May 30, 2021, when you purchase an RDS instance, the default time zone is the system time zone of the server on which the RDS instance is deployed. If the time field is frequently queried, the RDS instance may encounter serious performance issues. To prevent these performance issues, Alibaba Cloud changes the default value of the default_time_zone parameter for a new RDS instance from SYSTEM to the UTC time zone of the region to which the RDS instance belongs. This change takes effect on May 30, 2021.

Note

This change takes effect only on the TIMESTAMP type. This change does not take effect on the DATETIME type. For more information, see The DATE, DATETIME, and TIMESTAMP Types.

Effective time

May 30, 2021

Suggestions

If the time zone of an existing RDS instance is the default system time zone of the server on which the RDS instance is deployed, we recommend that you log on to the ApsaraDB RDS console and change the value of the default_time_zone parameter to the time zone of the region to which the RDS instance belongs. For more information, see Modify the parameters of an ApsaraDB RDS for MySQL instance.
