SQRT

The SQRT function returns the square root of n.

Syntax

SQRT (n)

Parameters

ParameterDescription

n

The expression of the numeric types: NUMBER, FLOAT, BINARY_FLOAT, and BINARY_DOUBLE.

n cannot be a negative number.

Return type

The return type is the same as the data type of the n parameter.

Examples

This example shows the results of using the SQRT function to calculate the square roots of two different numbers.

Execute the following statement:

SELECT SQRT(64), SQRT(10) FROM DUAL;

The following query result is returned:
