AnalyticDB for MySQL utilizes an architecture that separates storage resources from computing resources. Cloud native technologies enable AnalyticDB for MySQL to use pools to store resources. This implements the serverless architecture.
Storage resources deployed on the serverless architecture can be separately, elastically, and instantly scaled. You are charged for the number of storage resources that you use. You do not need to manage hardware resources. Storage pools can separate hot and cold data, automatically convert between hot and cold data based on access frequency, and reduce your storage costs by utilizing low-cost cold storage.
The storage layer of AnalyticDB for MySQL is built on a cloud native infrastructure. The architecture of the storage layer has the following features:
- Provides serverless services on a pay-as-you-go basis.
- Provides storage capacity with the unlimited scalability of Object Storage Service (OSS) or Apsara Distributed File System.
- Automatically converts between hot and cold data and migrates storage media without interrupting your business.
- Allows you to use various computing pushdown capabilities and provides high-performance query capabilities.
Additionally, AnalyticDB for MySQL supports tiered storage of hot and cold data to provide you with a more cost-effective experience. You can separately select cold and hot storage media for tables or list partitions of tables. For example, you can store all your table data in hot or cold storage media. You can also store part of partition data of a table in hot storage media and the other part of partition data in cold storage media. You can specify storage media based on business requirements. Policies can be automatically switched between hot and cold data storage. You are charged for the amount of serverless storage space that you use for hot and cold data on a pay-as-you-go basis.
