This topic describes how to use Object Storage Service (OSS) SDK for Java to perform routine operations, such as creating a bucket, uploading an object, and downloading an object.
Video tutorial
The following video shows how to use OSS SDK for Java.
Create a bucket
A bucket is a global namespace in OSS. A bucket is a container that is used to store objects.
The following sample code provides an example on how to create a bucket:
import com.aliyun.oss.ClientException;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSS;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSSClientBuilder;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSSException;
import com.aliyun.oss.common.auth.CredentialsProviderFactory;
import com.aliyun.oss.common.auth.EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider;
public class Demo {
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
// In this example, the endpoint of the China (Hangzhou) region is used. Specify your actual endpoint.
String endpoint = "https://oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com";
// Obtain access credentials from environment variables. Before you run the sample code, make sure that the OSS_ACCESS_KEY_ID and OSS_ACCESS_KEY_SECRET environment variables are configured.
EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider credentialsProvider = CredentialsProviderFactory.newEnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider();
// Specify the name of the bucket. Example: examplebucket.
String bucketName = "examplebucket";
// Create an OSSClient instance.
OSS ossClient = new OSSClientBuilder().build(endpoint, credentialsProvider);
try {
// Create a bucket.
ossClient.createBucket(bucketName);
} catch (OSSException oe) {
System.out.println("Caught an OSSException, which means your request made it to OSS, "
+ "but was rejected with an error response for some reason.");
System.out.println("Error Message:" + oe.getErrorMessage());
System.out.println("Error Code:" + oe.getErrorCode());
System.out.println("Request ID:" + oe.getRequestId());
System.out.println("Host ID:" + oe.getHostId());
} catch (ClientException ce) {
System.out.println("Caught an ClientException, which means the client encountered "
+ "a serious internal problem while trying to communicate with OSS, "
+ "such as not being able to access the network.");
System.out.println("Error Message:" + ce.getMessage());
} finally {
if (ossClient != null) {
ossClient.shutdown();
}
}
}
}
Upload an object
The following sample code provides an example on how to upload an object to OSS by using streaming upload:
import com.aliyun.oss.ClientException;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSS;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSSClientBuilder;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSSException;
import com.aliyun.oss.common.auth.CredentialsProviderFactory;
import com.aliyun.oss.common.auth.EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider;
import java.io.ByteArrayInputStream;
public class Demo {
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
// In this example, the endpoint of the China (Hangzhou) region is used. Specify your actual endpoint.
String endpoint = "https://oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com";
// Obtain access credentials from environment variables. Before you run the sample code, make sure that the OSS_ACCESS_KEY_ID and OSS_ACCESS_KEY_SECRET environment variables are configured.
EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider credentialsProvider = CredentialsProviderFactory.newEnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider();
// Specify the name of the bucket. Example: examplebucket.
String bucketName = "examplebucket";
// Specify the full path of the object. Example: exampledir/exampleobject.txt. Do not include the bucket name in the full path.
String objectName = "exampledir/exampleobject.txt";
// Create an OSSClient instance.
OSS ossClient = new OSSClientBuilder().build(endpoint, credentialsProvider);
try {
String content = "Hello OSS";
ossClient.putObject(bucketName, objectName, new ByteArrayInputStream(content.getBytes()));
} catch (OSSException oe) {
System.out.println("Caught an OSSException, which means your request made it to OSS, "
+ "but was rejected with an error response for some reason.");
System.out.println("Error Message:" + oe.getErrorMessage());
System.out.println("Error Code:" + oe.getErrorCode());
System.out.println("Request ID:" + oe.getRequestId());
System.out.println("Host ID:" + oe.getHostId());
} catch (ClientException ce) {
System.out.println("Caught an ClientException, which means the client encountered "
+ "a serious internal problem while trying to communicate with OSS, "
+ "such as not being able to access the network.");
System.out.println("Error Message:" + ce.getMessage());
} finally {
if (ossClient != null) {
ossClient.shutdown();
}
}
}
}
Download an object
The following sample code provides an example on how to download an object from OSS by using streaming download:
import com.aliyun.oss.ClientException;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSS;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSSClientBuilder;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSSException;
import com.aliyun.oss.common.auth.CredentialsProviderFactory;
import com.aliyun.oss.common.auth.EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider;
import com.aliyun.oss.model.OSSObject;
import java.io.BufferedReader;
import java.io.InputStream;
import java.io.InputStreamReader;
public class Demo {
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
// In this example, the endpoint of the China (Hangzhou) region is used. Specify your actual endpoint.
String endpoint = "https://oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com";
// Obtain access credentials from environment variables. Before you run the sample code, make sure that the OSS_ACCESS_KEY_ID and OSS_ACCESS_KEY_SECRET environment variables are configured.
EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider credentialsProvider = CredentialsProviderFactory.newEnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider();
// Specify the name of the bucket. Example: examplebucket.
String bucketName = "examplebucket";
// Specify the full path of the object. Example: exampledir/exampleobject.txt. Do not include the bucket name in the full path.
String objectName = "exampledir/exampleobject.txt";
// Create an OSSClient instance.
OSS ossClient = new OSSClientBuilder().build(endpoint, credentialsProvider);
try {
// Call ossClient.getObject to obtain an OSSObject instance. The OSSObject instance contains the content and metadata of the object.
OSSObject ossObject = ossClient.getObject(bucketName, objectName);
// Call ossObject.getObjectContent to obtain an input stream of the object. The input stream can be read to obtain the content of the object.
InputStream content = ossObject.getObjectContent();
if (content != null) {
BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(content));
while (true) {
String line = reader.readLine();
if (line == null) {
break;
}
System.out.println("\n" + line);
}
// You must close the obtained stream after the object is read. Otherwise, connection leaks may occur. Consequently, no connections are available and an exception occurs.
content.close();
}
} catch (OSSException oe) {
System.out.println("Caught an OSSException, which means your request made it to OSS, "
+ "but was rejected with an error response for some reason.");
System.out.println("Error Message:" + oe.getErrorMessage());
System.out.println("Error Code:" + oe.getErrorCode());
System.out.println("Request ID:" + oe.getRequestId());
System.out.println("Host ID:" + oe.getHostId());
} catch (ClientException ce) {
System.out.println("Caught an ClientException, which means the client encountered "
+ "a serious internal problem while trying to communicate with OSS, "
+ "such as not being able to access the network.");
System.out.println("Error Message:" + ce.getMessage());
} finally {
if (ossClient != null) {
ossClient.shutdown();
}
}
}
}
List objects
The following sample code provides an example on how to list objects in a bucket. By default, 100 objects are listed.
import com.aliyun.oss.ClientException;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSS;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSSClientBuilder;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSSException;
import com.aliyun.oss.common.auth.CredentialsProviderFactory;
import com.aliyun.oss.common.auth.EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider;
import com.aliyun.oss.model.OSSObjectSummary;
import com.aliyun.oss.model.ObjectListing;
public class Demo {
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
// In this example, the endpoint of the China (Hangzhou) region is used. Specify your actual endpoint.
String endpoint = "https://oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com";
// Obtain access credentials from environment variables. Before you run the sample code, make sure that the OSS_ACCESS_KEY_ID and OSS_ACCESS_KEY_SECRET environment variables are configured.
EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider credentialsProvider = CredentialsProviderFactory.newEnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider();
// Specify the name of the bucket. Example: examplebucket.
String bucketName = "examplebucket";
// Create an OSSClient instance.
OSS ossClient = new OSSClientBuilder().build(endpoint, credentialsProvider);
try {
// Call ossClient.listObjects to obtain an ObjectListing instance. The ObjectListing instance contains the response to the listObject request.
ObjectListing objectListing = ossClient.listObjects(bucketName);
// Call objectListing.getObjectSummaries to obtain the descriptions of all objects.
for (OSSObjectSummary objectSummary : objectListing.getObjectSummaries()) {
System.out.println(" - " + objectSummary.getKey() + " " +
"(size = " + objectSummary.getSize() + ")");
}
} catch (OSSException oe) {
System.out.println("Caught an OSSException, which means your request made it to OSS, "
+ "but was rejected with an error response for some reason.");
System.out.println("Error Message:" + oe.getErrorMessage());
System.out.println("Error Code:" + oe.getErrorCode());
System.out.println("Request ID:" + oe.getRequestId());
System.out.println("Host ID:" + oe.getHostId());
} catch (ClientException ce) {
System.out.println("Caught an ClientException, which means the client encountered "
+ "a serious internal problem while trying to communicate with OSS, "
+ "such as not being able to access the network.");
System.out.println("Error Message:" + ce.getMessage());
} finally {
if (ossClient != null) {
ossClient.shutdown();
}
}
}
}

The following sample code provides an example on how to delete an object:
import com.aliyun.oss.ClientException;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSS;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSSClientBuilder;
import com.aliyun.oss.OSSException;
import com.aliyun.oss.common.auth.CredentialsProviderFactory;
import com.aliyun.oss.common.auth.EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider;
public class Demo {
public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception {
// In this example, the endpoint of the China (Hangzhou) region is used. Specify your actual endpoint.
String endpoint = "https://oss-cn-hangzhou.aliyuncs.com";
// Obtain access credentials from environment variables. Before you run the sample code, make sure that the OSS_ACCESS_KEY_ID and OSS_ACCESS_KEY_SECRET environment variables are configured.
EnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider credentialsProvider = CredentialsProviderFactory.newEnvironmentVariableCredentialsProvider();
// Specify the name of the bucket. Example: examplebucket.
String bucketName = "examplebucket";
// Specify the full path of the object. Example: exampledir/exampleobject.txt. Do not include the bucket name in the full path.
String objectName = "exampledir/exampleobject.txt";
// Create an OSSClient instance.
OSS ossClient = new OSSClientBuilder().build(endpoint, credentialsProvider);
try {
// Delete the object.
ossClient.deleteObject(bucketName, objectName);
} catch (OSSException oe) {
System.out.println("Caught an OSSException, which means your request made it to OSS, "
+ "but was rejected with an error response for some reason.");
System.out.println("Error Message:" + oe.getErrorMessage());
System.out.println("Error Code:" + oe.getErrorCode());
System.out.println("Request ID:" + oe.getRequestId());
System.out.println("Host ID:" + oe.getHostId());
} catch (ClientException ce) {
System.out.println("Caught an ClientException, which means the client encountered "
+ "a serious internal problem while trying to communicate with OSS, "
+ "such as not being able to access the network.");
System.out.println("Error Message:" + ce.getMessage());
} finally {
if (ossClient != null) {
ossClient.shutdown();
}
}
}
}
