Database Autonomy Service:Overview of DAS Enterprise Edition

Last Updated:Apr 16, 2024

If you want to use the SQL Explorer and Audit feature to record and analyze the execution of SQL statements, you must enable Database Autonomy Service (DAS) Enterprise Edition, which is formerly known as DAS Professional Edition. DAS Enterprise Edition has multiple versions that vary in billing method. This topic describes the supported databases and regions, billing, benefits, and usage notes of each version of DAS Enterprise Edition.

Versions of DAS Enterprise Edition

DAS Enterprise Edition: You are charged for using DAS Enterprise Edition. DAS Enterprise Edition provides the SQL Explorer and Audit feature based on the features of DAS Cost-efficient Edition. DAS Enterprise Edition has the following versions that vary in billing method:

  • DAS Enterprise Edition V1 (formerly known as DAS Professional Edition of the previous version): The fees charged include the subscription fees and storage fees for data generated by the SQL Explorer and Audit feature.

  • DAS Enterprise Edition V2 (formerly known as DAS Professional Edition of the new version): Compared with DAS Enterprise Edition V1, DAS Enterprise Edition V2 changes the underlying storage architecture. The hybrid storage of hot and cold data is used to increase performance at lower costs.

  • DAS Enterprise Edition V3: Based on the hybrid storage of hot and cold data, the billable items are divided by features. This makes billing more flexible and greatly reduces costs.

DAS allows you to migrate data from DAS Enterprise Edition V1 or DAS Enterprise Edition V2 to DAS Enterprise Edition V3. Before the migration is complete, you are charged based on the source version of DAS Enterprise Edition. After the migration is complete, you are charged based on the destination version of DAS Enterprise Edition. For more information, see the How do I migrate data between different versions of DAS Enterprise Edition? section of the "FAQ" topic.

On the Edition Management page of the DAS console, you can view the version of DAS Enterprise Edition that is enabled for your database instance on the Enterprise Edition Instance tab.

Benefits

After you enable DAS Enterprise Edition, you can use the following features:

Important

The SQL Explorer and Audit feature provided by DAS Enterprise Edition records the information about all executed data query language (DQL), DML, and DDL statements. DAS obtains the information from database kernels, which consumes only a small amount of CPU resources.

  • Search: allows you to query SQL statements by specifying search conditions and export the information about SQL statements. For more information, see Search.

  • Security audit: helps you identify high-risk SQL statements, SQL injection attacks, abnormal SQL statements, and new request sources to ensure data security. For more information, see Security audit.

  • SQL Explorer: allows you to identify faults, query SQL templates and traffic data of databases, and check the health status of SQL statements. For more information, see SQL Explorer.

    • Pre-compute, analyze, aggregate, and store SQL statements at the minute level for fast responses.

    • Troubleshoot errors caused by faulty SQL statements.

    • Export SQL templates and traffic data of databases.

  • Traffic playback and stress testing: allows you to evaluate the database capacity, play back traffic for stress testing, and perform peak stress testing based on the previous business scenarios and traffic data. For more information, see Traffic playback and stress testing.

  • Automatic SQL optimization: automatically diagnoses slow SQL queries, generates index optimization suggestions, and creates indexes without table locks. For more information, see Automatic SQL optimization.

Usage notes

  • After you enable DAS Enterprise Edition, you may encounter the following issues due to the limits of DAS Enterprise Edition:

    • DAS Enterprise Edition does not support self-managed databases.

    • For information about the Alibaba Cloud databases and regions that are supported by DAS Enterprise Edition, see the Supported databases and regions section of the "Editions and supported features" topic.

  • The storage space used by a database instance for which DAS Enterprise Edition is enabled is provided by DAS and does not consume the storage space of the database instance.

  • The default data storage duration of DAS Enterprise Edition is one month. You can change the storage duration based on your business requirements after you enable DAS Enterprise Edition. For more information, see Enable and manage DAS Cost-efficient Edition and DAS Enterprise Edition.

    Note
    • The analytical and statistical data (excluding SQL details) generated by the SQL Explorer feature for a database instance can be stored for up to 90 days.

      • If you set the storage duration to less than 90 days when you enable DAS Enterprise Edition for the database instance, the analytical and statistical data (excluding SQL details) generated by the SQL Explorer feature is stored for the specified duration.

      • If you set the storage duration to more than 90 days when you enable DAS Enterprise Edition for the database instance, the analytical and statistical data (excluding SQL details) generated by the SQL Explorer feature is stored for 90 days.

    • The storage duration of SQL details generated by the SQL Explorer feature is the same as that specified when DAS Enterprise Edition is enabled for the database instance.

    • The results of real-time audit generated by the security audit feature for a database instance can be stored for up to 30 days.

  • The search, security audit, or SQL Explorer feature takes effect only on data that is generated after DAS Enterprise Edition is enabled and is within the specified storage duration.

  • If you disable DAS Enterprise Edition for a database instance, the SQL Explorer and Audit feature is disabled and all data related to DAS Enterprise Edition is deleted, including the data generated by the SQL Explorer feature and analytical data. However, your business is not affected. We recommend that you export and save the data to your computer before you disable DAS Enterprise Edition for the database instance. For more information about how to export data, see the Disable SQL Explorer and Audit section of the "Overview" topic.

  • When you enable DAS Enterprise Edition V1 for a data instance, the Alibaba Cloud account for which DAS Enterprise Edition V1 is enabled must have available instances for DAS Enterprise Edition V1. For more information about how to increase the available instances for DAS Enterprise Edition V1, see Enable and manage DAS Cost-efficient Edition and DAS Enterprise Edition.

  • After you enable or disable DAS Enterprise Edition for a database instance, you need to wait about 3 minutes before DAS Enterprise Edition is disabled or enabled for the database instance.
