Cloud Enterprise Network:Route learning

Last Updated:Jan 31, 2024

After a network instance is connected to an Enterprise Edition transit router of Cloud Enterprise Network (CEN), you can enable route learning between the network instance and the route tables of the Enterprise Edition transit router. After route learning is enabled, the network instance automatically advertises routes to the route tables of the Enterprise Edition transit router.

Limits

Only route tables of Enterprise Edition transit routers support route learning. For more information about how to query the edition of a transit router, see View the edition of a transit router.

How route learning works

A route table of an Enterprise Edition transit router can establish route learning relationships with multiple network instances. A network instance can establish route learning relationships with multiple route tables of Enterprise Edition transit routers.

After route learning is enabled between a route table of an Enterprise Edition transit router and a network instance, the network instance automatically advertises the following routes to the route table of the Enterprise Edition transit router.

Network instance type

Peer network type

Automatically advertised route

VPC connection

VPC

The system routes of the VPC.

  • If you want to advertise the custom routes in a system VPC route table to a route table of an Enterprise Edition transit router, advertise the custom routes to the CEN instance. For more information, see Advertise routes to a transit router.

  • Custom routes in custom VPC route tables cannot be advertised to CEN.

Virtual border router (VBR) connection

VBR

  • VBR routes whose next hops point to Express Connect circuits. You can find these routes on the Custom Route Entry tab.

  • VBR routes that are on the BGP Route Entry tab.

For more information about how to find these routes, see Add and manage routes.

VPN attachment

IPsec-VPN connection

The routes in the destination route tables of IPsec-VPN attachments and BGP route tables.

Inter-region connection

Transit router

  • If the local and peer transit routers of an inter-region connection are both of Enterprise Edition, the routes in the peer route table that is associated with the inter-region connection are automatically advertised to the route tables of the local transit router.

  • If the local transit router is of Enterprise Edition and the peer transit router is of Basic Edition, the routes in the route tables of the peer transit router are automatically advertised to the route tables of the local transit router.

Creates a route learning policy

  1. Log on to the CEN console.

  2. On the Instances page, click the ID of the CEN instance that you want to manage.

  3. Navigate to the Basic Settings > Transit Router tab and click the ID of the transit router that you want to manage.

  4. On the details page of the transit router, click the Route Table tab.

  5. In the left-side section, click the ID of the route table that you want to manage. On the details page of the route table, click the Route Propagation tab.

  6. On the Route Propagation tab, click Enable Route Propagation. In the Enable Route Propagation dialog box, set the following parameters and click OK.

    Parameter

    Description

    Route Table

By default, the current route table is selected.

    Transit Router

By default, the current transit router is selected.

    Attachment

Select the network instance connection for which you want to enable route learning.

After route learning is enabled between the network instance and transit router route table, routes of the network instance are automatically advertised to the route table. You can find the routes on the Route Entry tab.

Delete a route learning policy

After route learning is disabled between a network instance and a transit router route table, routes that are advertised from the network instance to the route table are automatically withdrawn.

  6. On the Route Propagation tab, find the network instance connection and click Delete in the Actions column.

  7. In the Disable Route Propagation message, check the information and click OK.
