You are notified of events such as instance migrations and version upgrades by text messages, phone calls, emails, internal messages, and console notifications. You can view event types, regions, procedures, precautions, and related instances. You can also change the scheduled switchover time.

Precautions

  • At the top of the ApsaraDB for Redis console, you can view the number of notifications for pending events. A value of 0 indicates no pending events. Pending events
  • You are notified of an ApsaraDB-related event, such as an instance migration or a version upgrade, at least three days before the event occurs. Event notifications are sent to you by using voice messages, emails, internal messages, or the ApsaraDB for Redis console. To use this feature, log on to the Message Center, turn on ApsaraDB Fault or Maintenance Notifications, and then specify a contact. We recommend that you specify an operations and maintenance (O&M) engineer as a contact.
Note To be notified of event updates at the earliest opportunity, such as new pending events and task progress, you can configure alert rules for pending events in the CloudMonitor console. For more information, see Subscribe to event notifications.

Causes and impacts of pending events

Cause Impact Impact description
Instance migration Transient connection
When the switchover is performed in the maintenance window after the scheduled switchover time, you may experience the following impacts:
  • Your instances or data shards in your instances experience transient connections and stay in the read-only state for 30 seconds or less before all data is synchronized. Make sure that the switchover occurs during off-peak hours and configure a reconnection mechanism for you application.
  • You cannot manage your instances by using Data Management (DMS) or Data Transmission Service (DTS). This impact is temporary.
Switchover between primary and secondary nodes
Minor version upgrade Transient connection
When the switchover is performed in the maintenance window after the scheduled switchover time, you may experience the following impacts:
  • Your instances or data shards in your instances experience transient connections and stay in the read-only state for 30 seconds or less before all data is synchronized. Make sure that the switchover occurs during off-peak hours and configure a reconnection mechanism for you application.
  • You cannot manage your instances by using Data Management (DMS) or Data Transmission Service (DTS). This impact is temporary.
Differences between minor versions Different minor versions or engine versions have different updates. You must take note of the differences between the current minor version and the minor version to which your instance is upgraded.
Proxy minor version upgrade Transient connection
