You can create an ApsaraDB for Lindorm (Lindorm) instance in the Lindorm console. This topic describes how to create a Lindorm instance. This topic also describes the parameters that you must configure when you create the instance.

Prerequisites

  • An Alibaba Cloud account is created.
  • An Alibaba Cloud virtual private cloud (VPC) is created. If no VPC is available, log on to the VPC console to create a VPC. For more information, see Create a VPC.

Procedure

  1. Log on to the Lindorm console. In the left-side navigation pane, click Instance list. On the page that appears, click Create.
    You can also visit the product details page and click Buy Now to create a Lindorm instance.
  2. On the buy page, select a product type.
    • Subscription: This billing method is suitable for long-term use. The subscription billing method is more cost-effective than the pay-as-you-go billing method. You can receive larger discounts for longer subscription periods.
    • Pay-as-you-go: You pay for the instance on an hourly basis based on your actual usage. We recommend that you select this billing method for short-term use. You can release your pay-as-you-go instance when it is no longer used. This reduces costs.
    Note You can switch the billing method from pay-as-you-go to subscription, but you cannot switch the billing method from subscription to pay-as-you-go.
  3. Configure the following parameters as described in the following table.
    Category Parameter Description
    Basic settings Region The region where you want to deploy the Lindorm instance. You cannot change the region after the instance is created. We recommend that you select a region that is in close proximity to the geographic location where your users reside. This increases the access speeds of your users. Make sure that the Lindorm instance is deployed in the same region as the Elastic Compute Service (ECS) instance to which you want the instance to connect. If the instance and the ECS instance are deployed in different regions, they cannot communicate over an internal network. In this case, they must communicate over the Internet. This reduces performance.
    Zone The zone where you want to deploy the Lindorm instance. Each region has multiple isolated locations that are known as zones.
    Network Type Only VPC is supported.
    VPC Select a VPC based on your business requirements.
    vSwitch Select a vSwitch that corresponds to the VPC that you selected.
    Cluster Name You can specify a custom name.
    Storage and database engine Storage Type Lindorm provides the following storage types: Standard, Performance, Capacity, Local SSD, and Local HDD. You can select a storage type based on your business requirements. For more information, see Select a storage type.
    • Standard: This storage type is suitable for scenarios in which you require real-time data access, such as feed processing, data exchanges in chats, real-time report processing, and online computing.
    • Performance: This storage type is suitable for scenarios in which you require low-latency data access, such as bidding and advertising, user persona analysis, audience group selection, real-time searches, and risk control.
    • Capacity: This storage type is suitable for scenarios in which you require low-frequency data access, such as the storage of monitoring logs and historical orders, audio and video file archiving, data lake storage, and offline computing.
    • Local SSD: A local SSD is a local disk that is attached to a single physical server. Local SSDs provide multiple benefits, such as low latency, high random input/output operations per second (IOPS), high throughput, and high cost-effectiveness. Local SSDs are suitable for online business scenarios, such as online gaming, e-commerce, live streaming, and media. This storage type helps meet the low latency and high I/O performance requirements of I/O-intensive applications on block storage.
    • Local HDD: A local HDD is a local disk that is attached to a single physical server. Local HDDs provide multiple benefits, such as low latency, high IOPS, high throughput, and high cost-effectiveness. Local HDDs are the preferred storage media for industries such as the Internet and finance that have high requirements for big data computing, storage, and analysis. This storage type is suitable for business scenarios that require the storage of large amounts of data and offline computing.
    Select Engine Type Lindorm provides the following types of data engines: wide table, time series, search, and file. You can specify the node specifications and the number of nodes for the database engines based on your business requirements. For more information, see Select data engines.
    • Wide table engine: Specify the node specification and the number of core nodes for the wide table engine based on your business requirements.
      Note
      • If you select Local SSD or Local HDD for the Storage Type parameter, this feature is not supported.
      • The wide table engine supports only a CPU-to-memory ratio of 1:4.
    • Time series engine: Specify the node specification and the number of core nodes for the time series engine based on your business requirements.

      • If you select Local SSD or Local HDD for the Storage Type parameter, this feature is not supported.
      • The time series engine supports only a CPU-to-memory ratio of 1:4.
    • Search engine: Specify the node specification and the number of core nodes for the search engine based on your business requirements.
      Note
      • If you select Local SSD or Local HDD for the Storage Type parameter, this feature is not supported.
      • The search engine supports only a CPU-to-memory ratio of 1:4.
    • File engine: Specify the number of nodes for the file engine based on your business requirements. By default, the node specification is Standard.
      Note If you select Local SSD or Local HDD for the Storage Type parameter, this feature is not supported.
    Storage Space Select the storage space based on your business requirements. An instance supports a maximum storage space of 126,720 GB.
    Purchase Cold Storage Specify whether to use cold storage based on your business requirements. If you set this parameter to Yes, you can customize the cold storage capacity. The maximum storage capacity for cold data is 100,000 GB.
    Note If you set Storage Type to Standard, Performance, or Capacity, the available storage capacity for the instance equals the total storage capacity. If you set Storage Type to Local SSD or Local HDD, the instance uses a triplicate architecture. Therefore, the available storage capacity of the instance accounts for a third of the total storage capacity.
    Subscription Subscription Length Select a duration based on your business requirements. You can enable auto-renewal.
    Note We recommend that you enable auto-renewal for subscription instances. This way, you do not need to manually renew the instance on a regular basis. This helps prevent business interruptions due to overdue payments.
  4. After the preceding parameters are configured, click Buy Now.
  5. On the Confirm Order page, read and agree to the service agreement by selecting the check box and click Activate Now to complete the payment.
