After an SAP HANA instance is registered, you can view the installation status of the Elastic Compute Service (ECS) backup client on each node of the SAP HANA instance. Make sure that an ECS backup client is installed on all nodes to be backed up. You can also upgrade, uninstall, or delete an ECS backup client based on your business needs.

Background information

If the version of an ECS backup client is outdated, you can upgrade the client to the latest version. If an ECS backup client fails to be activated or upgraded, you must uninstall the client and then reinstall it. If you no longer need the backup data on an ECS backup client, you can delete the client.

Procedure

  1. Make sure that an SAP HANA instance is registered. Go to the SAP HANA Instance tab of the ECS Application Backup page.
  2. Find the target SAP HANA instance and choose More > Manage Node in the Actions column.
  3. On the page that appears, click the Node Info tab to view the installation status of the ECS backup client on nodes. If the ECS backup client is installed, the node status is Activated. In this case, you can perform the following operations:
    • Upgrade an ECS backup client

To upgrade the ECS backup client on a node, find the target node and click Upgrade in the Client Type column.

Note During the upgrade, you must disable the SAP HANA database backup feature. For more information, see SAP Note 2009486.
    • Reinstall an ECS backup client

To reinstall the ECS backup client on a node, find the target node and choose More > Uninstall Client in the Actions column. After the client is uninstalled, choose More > Re-install in the Actions column.

    • Uninstall an ECS backup client

To uninstall the ECS backup client from a node, find the target node and choose More > Uninstall Client in the Actions column.

    • Delete an ECS backup client

To uninstall the ECS backup client from a node and remove the node, find the target node and click Delete in the Actions column.

Notice After you delete an ECS backup client, the existing backup data is also deleted, and relevant in-progress backup and restore jobs will fail. Before you delete an ECS backup client, make sure that the backup data of this client is no longer needed and this client has no backup and restore jobs in progress.
