When you add an instance to Data Management (DMS), you must set a control mode for
the instance. You can also change the control mode of the instance in the DMS console
as required. The control mode of an instance can be changed in the Edit instance dialog box or in the left-side navigation pane.
Prerequisites
You are a database administrator (DBA) or a DMS administrator.

Set a control mode when you register an instance
You must set a control mode for an instance when you register the instance in DMS.

Change the control mode of an instance in the Edit instance dialog box
You can open the Edit instance dialog box by using one of the following methods:
- Log on to the DMS console.
From the Instance page:
- In the top navigation bar, choose .
- On the Instance page, find the target instance, move the pointer over More in the Actions column, and then select Edit instance.
From the left-side navigation pane:
- In the left-side navigation pane, right-click the target instance.
- Select Edit instance.
- In the Edit instance dialog box, set the Control Mode parameter based on your actual needs.

Note If you set
Control Mode to
Security Collaboration, you must further set the
Security Rules parameter. For more information, see
Control modes.
Change the control mode of an instance in the left-side navigation pane
- Log on to the DMS console.
- In the left-side navigation pane, right-click the target instance.
- Move the pointer over Control Mode and select a control mode based on your actual needs.

Note If you set
Control Mode to
