Term Description
Short Message Service Short Message Service (SMS) is an Alibaba Cloud messaging service that allows users across the globe to send verification codes, notifications, and promotional messages. SMS is available in more than 200 countries and regions. SMS supports mobile number portability (MNP). SMS messages in mainland China are sent in an exclusive channel provided by China Mobile, China Telecom, and China Unicom. SMS provides carrier-grade operations and maintenance (O&M) capabilities, monitors performance of SMS channels in real time and supports automatic channel switchover.
SMS for regions outside mainland China Alibaba Cloud SMS allows global users to send messages to regions outside mainland China. The total number of destination countries and regions is more than 200, including Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. You can use SMS to send verification codes, notifications, and promotional messages to mobile numbers that belong to these countries and regions.
SMS for Mainland China Alibaba Cloud SMS allows global users to send messages to mainland China. SMS messages include verification codes, notifications, and promotional messages.
Verifcation Code Alibaba Cloud SMS allows global users to use their own languages to send verification codes. SMS can be applied in the following scenarios where verification codes are required: application registration, website registration, secure logon, payment authentication, identity authentication, password retrieval, and account binding.
Customer Notifications Alibaba Cloud SMS allows global users to send notifications to global customers and explore global markets. SMS can be applied in the following scenarios where notifications are required: order management, payments, logistics, meetings, government management, life services, cross-border order management, and cross-border logistics.
Promotional Messages Alibaba Cloud SMS allows global users to send promotional messages. SMS can be applied in the following scenarios where promotional messages are required: product promotions, membership management, activity invitations, and cross-border marketing.
SMS template You can customize a message template that contains variables. When you use the template to send a message, you only need to specify the variables. An SMS template can be used only after being approved. You can use SMS templates to send verification codes, customer notifications, and promotional messages. SMS signature SMS allows you to easily configure a personalized signature. When you send a message to a specified number, SMS attaches a personalized signature to the message content based on your settings. You can add a signature to a message sent to mainland China. SenderID
  • The value of the SenderID parameter can contain letters, digits, symbols, and spaces. If the value contains letters and digits, you can specify a maximum of 11 characters in length. If the value contains only digits, you can specify a maximum of 15 characters in length.
  • You can specify the SenderID parameter based on your needs. If you send messages to the countries that support dynamic sender IDs, the specified sender IDs are carried in the messages. If you send messages to the countries that do not support dynamic sender IDs, the specified sender IDs are replaced with the default sender IDs. In this case, you can submit a ticket to request the required sender ID.
